Holy Moley!!!! Our fridge died yesterday, so we had to go last night and shop for a new one... WOW!!! Is all I can say. What ever happened to a plain ol' fridge? One that didn't cost you your first born?? Geeze some had a freakin tv in them, like, I need a tv in my fridge, for what??? I found some options absolutly bizzare!!! Finally after looking and listening to the salesman go on and on we finally chose a Whirlpool side by side model. My Hubby was convinced he couldn't live without the cute little ice dispenser that gives you either moon shaped cubes or crushed ice. It also has filtered water. Mind you we went to buy a plain ol' fridge, no frills, just a big white thing to keep the food cold and what ever I don't put in the deep freeze, to throw in the top freezer. Ya know spend maybe 3-500 bucks. HA HA HA Almost $1200 bucks later we will now have a fancy fridge that gives us "filtered water" and "moonshaped or crushed ice" Yippee!! LOL
Well, if you read this far, thanks. I'm done ranting now. It's just to close to Christmas for this stuff. I laugh but feel like crying. I know this is nothing in the grand scheme of things... it sometimes just feels like if it could happen, it would... to us.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I don't think I'll ever buy an appliance new again LOL! Just WAY too much.

Luckily, there is a store not too far away that deals with secondhand furniture and applicances, and they test and warranty the appliances. We need a new fridge - the door is messed up and DH can't get it to level no matter what, so there is a 1/2" crack at the top, and it runs non-stop. It's also probably older than me, so I doubt it's energy star.

When I have an extra $200 somewhere, I'm going to run to that place and start watching for a fridge that will fit in the spot. It will pay for itself probably in a few months on the electric bill! Their fridges run about $90-200 depending on size and features.

I don't succumb to those temptations. It is almost amusing to see salesclerks try to impress me with features and come to realize I mean SIMPLE. I will pay for energy star -period.

I wish that I had a used place to buy appliances at that I was comfortable with the quality.

Dh and I do have a fancy fridge we bought last year and I love it! So long as it gives me several good years of service I think its money well spent! No moon shaped ice or a tv, but it does have filtered water which I like!
