I would love to be debt free but that is not possible if you include student loans. Too many school loans but on credit cards Im pretty sure they will be at zero by dec 08

Ever an optomist...even I must say oh I'd love to be debt free in 08, but it's not going to happen I do think I'm on a good track, but perhaps I could be on a BETTER one.

I think Missy hit it on the head...Have a plan, but I know there are some that have no idea even where to begin formulating that...I think I'd like to see more "how-to's" And success stories when you reach your goals...everyone loves a good success story (I know it's a topic already...and I love it, I hope to see more and more add to it, and even BE one someday!)

I'd like to be debt free in 2008 but that won't happen. We're moving in 2 1/2 weeks and once we get to our new duty station, dh finds out what his work schedule will look like, we find a place to live, I'd like to get a part time job and use the $$ toward our debts.

My advice is to plan ahead, do you have $$ in case of an emergency? Is there an expense you know is coming up this year that you're not sure how you'll pay for (in our case it's ortho work on my oldest )? Start putting away $$ now, even if it's only $5 or $10 at a time. Yes, you could pay down your debt faster if you apply all extra $$ toward bills but what happens when you have a bill for 2,000 and you have nothing saved up for it?

We are debt free except for our home, and our finacial goal is to make double house payments every month in 2008 to whittle that down. It will be a struggle, but we have our emergency cash in place, as well as college funds, and retirement, so we will just really have to cut the discretionary spending and see if we can do it. ( IF I can prove to my husband that we can make these kind of payments, at the end of the year, we can possibly purchase a small farm I have had my eye on for years and start a home business!)

I would like to replenish our baby EF to at least $2K and plan to have our CC balances go down (I'm aiming for 0-balance, but would be happy if they're reduced by at least half). The car note and the mortgage will take longer -- the mortgage especially since we really want and could use a larger house (this one really was not built for a family of our size).

I'll be debt free in August and have a fully funded emergency fund by this time next year.

completely debt free not likely unless my inheritance after the irs gets done with it can wipe out the cc's.. but my plan is to be less in debt and keep chunking away at it...

my advice is to do the best you can and don't add more debt keep chunking away at it.

I won't be debt free in '08, but I do plan on making another big dent in it. I should have one loan totally paid off by August, but I'll look for ways to pay it off sooner.

My plan is to continue to put all my babysitting money to debt and keep a spending journal this year. Cut out all frivolous spending and save wherever I can. I started tracking some spending last year (groceries, eating out) but I think I need to write down ALL of it.

Debt free in 2008?? One can dream, huh? It's not going to happen in 2008 for us. We did pay off our car loan, and I am sooo happy! We do plan on knocking it down, so we are going to use our tax refund towards paying down our cc's and debt and cut down on unnecessary spending.

We will be trying.
We have our credit card debt, our car that is almost paid off and one garnishing order that is almost off of DH name ( his mother's fault ).

After that we plan to save for a deposit for our house. DH wants to try get a 50% deposit in four years - hard goal to work for but really worthwhile.
