I use TaxACT Online taxes: FREE online tax filing, IRS efile & income tax preparation for free every year. I plugged in last paystubs and put in everyone in our household to get a rough estimate.

My estimate is spot on compared to last year. About $900 back from Federal, will more than likely owe state about $300 if it's like last year as well.

We will be getting about 4k back... from uncle sam, but will have to pay $150 to the state of Oregon. We are on the low income side of the spectrum and actually owe 0 taxes after having the child tax credit taken out. We also get the EIC & additional tax credits.. If my dh had gone to school, or if my sudent loans were not in deferment we would be getting even more back. I could have dh change his exemptions, or even elect to get the EIC added back into our regular paycheck but I am afraid of him getting a better paying job and then having to pay in at the end of the year.

I was Surprised to see ours is about 1/2 of what I thought it would be.
I don't know if there are new rules or what ...
We make about the same /versus Deductions every yr.
There's still hope. The IRS is slow this year releasing their 2008 "rules" and limits. It has yet to be released still. They moved back the intial file date from Jan 8th to Jan 11th. So, I'm hoping it will come out this week (and it should). They always say Jan of the current year, but normally it's all set by end of December. Mine is slightly down too, but that's because of raises and differences in paycycles (the weeks aren't always the same) plus the "estimator computer" doesn't know the new rules so it guesses carefully.

So don't give up hope yet!
