Have you checked to see what your refund will be using an online tax estimator?

I was Surprised to see ours is about 1/2 of what I thought it would be.
I don't know if there are new rules or what ...
We make about the same /versus Deductions every yr.

I didn't Know if I was Figuring way wrong or if the Calculators were off , because of the New amt law , or whatever.
Just thought I would check to see if anyone else was surprised.
I know We are Maxed out on our deductions and still paying in 800 a month into Federal

With mortgage Interest payments and Itemizing we usually get most of that Back. Plus we have a 3,000 child tax credit...

Anyway , Just looking to see if anyone has Calculated yet.

HR block is usually right on for me!!

No, I just wait until I get all the paper work and take my stuff to H&R and have them done. To be honest, I could not even tell you how much we have gotten in past years. I just wait and see.

To be honest, i dont calculate. I just take everything to my tax person, who is a previous IRS Agent, and she prepares it for me. How do u calculate it? Do you go to a specific web site? I'd like to know.

Ok so where do you go to do this? Also what kinds of deductions do you all take--if you don't mind me asking, I know dh has his milage , I think I can do my tuition for school, our mortgage, --also one tax place let me use what I buy from school fundraisers and another didn't so I am not sure what all you can take off as a deduction.

I go to H&R Block | Taxes, Online Tax Preparation, Tax Software, Filing Advice, Help & Tax Return Information

Look for the tax refund/amount owed Estimate Calculator

For our Itemizing-

we get an additional Child tax credit of 3,000 ( 1,000 a piece)

We Claim about 16,000 in mortgage interest

About $900 in Work related expenses - ANYTHING Dh uses for work including , clothes , Computer needs cell phone, ( not Minutes , just the initial equipment)

We also have about $2400 A yr. in Tithing and donations.

Verdict is in - EVERYONE who is Doing it is getting a much Lower Number-

I Guess it has something to do with the AMT laws -

I dont' know ....

I Guess I have to File and See what I am getting.

I am having DH readjust his Exemptions - AGAIN-

We paid in over 12,000 this yr. And We Normally get most of that back

I went to IRS.gov and It looks like we can claim up to 17 and Still get a Small Refund ( About 1,000)

We are at about 10 now .

Looks like we are getting like $1500 more than we thought. Seems too good to be true. I think having my own business helps though since there are tons of deductions for that. Guess we'll have to wait til its actually time to file.
