Way to go!!!

Suzie Orman tell you not to cancel the account. It can hurt your credit score. I don't know how long you have had it open but the longer you have it open and don't get behind the better your score is. Pay it off and put it away for emergencies and pull it out once a year and pay it off when you get the bill and that will keep it open.

queenboxtop ~ yes, that was an option that I considered, but it's not for me. I have claimed bankruptcy once (about 3.5 years ago) due to out of control spending, emotional spending, etc. and when it comes to credit cards, I have no self control. I know this about myself and instead of trying to change myself, I am just eliminating the desire. I lived without a credit card for 2 years (and was in a COMPLETELY "cash-only" mindset by that point) and then I read some of Suze Orman's stuff and decided to get one, to raise my credit score. The next thing I know, I'm almost $3,000 back in debt! I'm not saying it's not my fault or that I am powerless. I am NOT powerless. I am POWERFUL because I have the willpower to CANCEL my accounts and NOT use credit cards. lol.

I'm not trying to poo-poo your suggestion, just letting you know the specific circumstances of this particular situation. When I called to cancel it after paying it off, the guy asked me like 8 times what he could do to keep me.. lower my interest rate, give me a higher credit line (yeah, that's exactly what I need to get rid of debt! lol).. etc.. but I just clenched my teeth and kept saying "no, I just need you to cancel it". He canceled it and I asked him to send me the cancellation in writing to confirm it. He said he would. Yay.

So now, I just have my other cc to pay off this year and the only debt I will have is my student loans!
