I usually buy gifts throughout the year. If I find something I think that a person on my list will like, I get it. I'm also a big sale shopper. It helps spread out the spending so that when January rolls around we just pay our credit card bill in full.

My hubby has a Christmas Club acct at his CU and it really helped out this year (our first doing it). B/c finances are kind of tight we only put $5/wk into it. His check is direct deposit and it pulls out of it to go into our other accts as soon as it's deposited.

I have had a Christmas Club Account at my bank for years. It has helped tremendously. I also buy gifts the day after Christmas like 1/2 priced bath sets for employees, teachers, mailwomen etc...

I don't shop early because I really don't like shopping. But I have for years used an envelope type budget and gifts/Christmas is one. I don't really use envelopes , I use what I call buckets that are really columns in a spreadsheet. The actual money is in a money market account. It is such a mindless process ongoing because all the thought and work was in the setup. So saving for property taxes, car insurance or Christmas just happens.

It is when you have to stop, think and act that people get into trouble. Too many steps where emotional urges can intrude.

We have a Christmas Club account. I took back a load of pop cans, and deposited that money into the account plus a check from doing a survey. Starting next month we will transfer a set amount into it each month. Plus I look for bargains throughout the year, and have a box downstairs I hide future gifts in.

This past christmas we did most in cash and some on the credit card. Next year I want all shopping in cash so I am going to be setting up a christmas club and putting $10 a week into it.
I would shop early but I like the idea of the christmas club because my kids change their minds as to what they want all year long so I would rather wait and see what they want in Oct/Nov.
