I have been telling my husband for years that we need to pay down our credit cards. He agrees, yet he doesn't really do anything to pay them down. We also are paying for a Parent Loan for my stepson who just flunked out of college, will be paying a Plus loan for my stepdaughter in 2 years, + she's getting married, so we will be donating some money to that.

Every time I talk to my husband about finances lately, he starts getting bad heartburn. I'm so tired of skirting around the issue. He spends lots of money on his "toys", and they aren't cheap, either-yet he wonders where all his money goes. He's not willing to do without for one year while I try to get a grasp on the CC ($35K). He's not willing to sell any of the toys. I have cancelled my 401K for a year to start sending extra money to the cards. I am just tired of worrying about this and the only one willing to do anything about it.

Just venting. Don't know what there is to do, really. Don't want to get a loan to pay them off, because he'll just add more to the cards.

I don't really have any advice, so im sorry, but i wanted to write to you bc I know how you feel.
maybe if you write down ALL OF THE SPENDING YOU ALL DO, YOURS AND HIS
AND SHOW IT TO HIM AT THE END OF THE MONTH.
MAYBE IT WILL BECOME MORE "REAL" TO HIM.

*BTW, you are getting your stepdaughter a loan (is that a school loan?) AND SHE'S GETTING MARRIED?

I understand where you are coming from, too. I'm the one that handles the "budget" in our home. Well, this really has been a tough job for me, I'm not the greatest at it, I'll be the first to admit....so we've been put in tough spots.

HOWEVER, we were also dumb and have an Adjustable Rate Mortgage and 2 VERY expensive car payments....as well as credit card debt, student loans, and medical bills.

I've just started the Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover...and am excited to get moving. My car is a lease (oh lordie)...but AS SOON as it is up, I will ONLY buy a car I can purchase in cash. HOWEVER...my husband seems to think that his 2004 BMW needs to be replaced right now...and with an even more expensive car.

He's just not on the same page. My goal is to be debt free and saving for DD and DS's college fund, not driving around with a fancy emblem on the hood of my car.
