HAHA!! Y'all are hilarious!
I do not have either kind of drawer however I DO have a file in the file cabinet that has things like SS cards, birth certificates, etc...however I need to get on board and get a fireproof box...and collect the rest of the stuff it's missing!

We don't have one but I know we should. Could someone post a list of all the things that should be included. That would help me get motivated and actually do it. I even have a fireproof box sitting in our spare room closet (empty ).

I agree that those things should be in a fireproof box, or safe deposit box rather than a drawer. Copies maybe, not the originals.

I don't have a box, or drawer though. Thanks for the reminder to do this!!

I have to admit that was my first thought too!! GEESH my mind is in the gutter eh!

We have a fireproof box with all our important documents! :-)

We probably could get a little more organized on this. I have some things to add though, that we wished we had access to when my mom died.

Account numbers and passwords to ALL online accounts, bank accounts, credit cards. We got credit card bills for cards we didn't know she had (luckily, $0)
Account numbers for all utilities, cell phones and any online passwords
Mortgage documents, deeds, car titles
Living Will
Medical Insurance, Life Insurance, any disability paperwork
Employer information

I already have a fire-resistant safe in my closet that holds prior years tax info, etc. Plus I have a smaller fireproof case (with a handle). I think the case was $15-30 at Wal Mart. The smaller case I could actually carry out if there is a fire and since I can't remember if it was fire-proof or fire-resistant I probably will try to take it if I can.

A friend of mine had her house broken into a while back and every room was trashed - mattresses flipped, etc - except for the kitchen & her daughters room! So now you know where to hide your important documents! I figure in case of a fire I'll be heading to my kids rooms anyway! I can use the case to break the window if I need to! If you don't have a safe I've also heard a freezer can be a pretty good hiding place and it's not usually completely demolished in a fire.

I'm also working on this! I don't know if a 9 year old could open it, but I atleast want DH to be able to!

I've been telling him lately that I want to teach him how to pay the bills one month. Show him how to do the online stuff and compare everything paid, etc to my spreadsheet. I want him prepared if need-be!

I have the originals in the fire proof box/safe. Then I also have a backpack that is our emergency evacuation kit and it has copies of those papers. It is stored safely but somewhere we could grab easily in case of fire, tornado, etc.

That's a really good point. I'm so glad you posted this. I think I'll be moving our fireproof box into the nursery this weekend.
