Dave Ramsey has a suggestions in one of his email (newsletter) that suggests we all get a "Love Drawer" together. Basically he says this...

"A Love Drawer is a drawer in your house with all the important papers that your family needs if something happens to you. It contains everything: your last will and testament, insurance policies, funeral instructions, mutual fund statements, passports, budgets - everything that your spouse and family would need to know if you weren't around. It is also organized in such a way that a 9-year-old could open it up and find any given document in 30 seconds."

Do you have a love drawer? What types of things do you have in it? I'm trying to complete mine now and need a good list of EVERYTHING someone would need in the event of my (and/or my husbands) death.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? DO YOU HAVE ONE??? IF NOT, IT MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME TO GET THIS DONE!!!

We also have one in a fireproof safe. I don't know if a 9 year old could open it and find any given document in 30 seconds or not but it is all there.

I think that if you don't have those items in a fire proof safe or deposit box that would be foolish. Maybe put copies in a drawer, but the originals should be safe in case of disaster. I've also read to make two copies and give to whomever would execute your will (other than your spouse), like in my case my mom and dad (they live apart).

LOL!!!

TOO funny!! And I have to admit - that was my first thought too!! LOL

I agree that those things should be in a fireproof box, or safe deposit box rather than a drawer. Copies maybe, not the originals.

I don't have a box, or drawer though. Thanks for the reminder to do this!!

Ours are in a fire proof box.

In our filing cabinet is a list of accounts, etc that we have and instructions on where to find the other stuff (in the fire proof box). Our lawyer knows where everything is and has copies of most of the important stuff.

I keep meaning to buy the fire proof box but never seem to get around to it. I WILL do it this weekend! The good news is that all of the papers are in the same place so I can just put them in the box.

I confess I probably have my head in the sand ... but I've never heard of a fireproof box. I'm going to have to look into that. I think a love drawer is a great idea! Right now it's all in the filing cabinet but so is a lot of other stuff.
