On oprah on friday i think or thursday they did the show with suzie orman and the update on the one family plus a new family where the sister is living off the money of another sister.

Anyways suzie visted the living off sisters house and it was in disaray. Kichen was messy the kids bedrooms had junk on the floor . And suzie said that until you can respect the things that money buys you can not respect money. Plus the disarray shows that you are not at peace or one with your self.

This so hit home!!! I totally get it about taking care of your things because they cost to buy them and you need to take care put things away clean house and everything and the whole not being at peace with myself and my house is showing it.

What do you think of it.

I am the same way. My house is always messy and cluttered and I hate to so much. It stresses me out so much. I'm not sure if it means I'm not at peace with myself. Well, I'm certainly not at peace with my housekeeping skills, so that holds true. lol.

I totally agree with Suzie. I am fighting the battle myself and little by little I am winning. My house is much cleaner since the start of this year and I intend to keep it that way. I have learned alot about myself since I started the FTJ project. I now see how stuff just keeps you in bondage. I am taking baby steps to get out of debt and with that I am feeling better and my house is cleaner.

I think maybe Suzie should write a book. LOL

I didn't see the episode but love Suze Orman. She has some great books out there that everyone should read. I just got my mom the new Women & Money book for Christmas.

Honestly, I am such a neat freak that every morning i get up 30 minutes early to clean 2 bathrooms and sweep the kitchen, dinning and living room. Then before i leave for work, i make up our bed and vacumn the 3 bedrooms. And no one lives here but dh and myself and our little dog.

I have always tried to live by the saying "that the way you live is a reflection on you".

If I spend money on somthing, i have always tried to take care of it, because i know that i have to work hard and usually save the money to replace it!

Our house is VERY small, and it is almost impossible to keep it clean AND live in it. I think there is a grain of truth in what Suze is saying -- basically your house can be out of control and it can be an indicator of your life being out of control. However, I know some people who deny time with their children to take the time to keep their house orderly and clean. I know some very uptight people with very orderly and clean homes -- not sure that they are in control of their lives. Sometimes, I think they clean and keep order because it is the one thing in their lives that they can control . . . .

I know women who are very tidy, neat and clean who may spend less time with the kids but they certainly don't neglet them. They just happen to take a lot of pride in their home and belongings.

I also know women who are messy and spend more time with the kids, but I wonder if it could be an excuse to spend more time with the kids because they don't want to clean. There are so many ways to look at this. Justification can be a factor in either scenario.

I have made big changes in my outlook over the years. When my children were babies, I was home and neglected the house. Loved being with the babies but wasn't happy or productive. Went back to school got a good job and ran the rat race for years. Growing children meant more monetary needs. Chasing raises to pay the orthodontist. Still neglected the house. I reached a breaking point when I couldn't in good conscience keep doing the job I had for ethical reasons. That was when I discovered simple living.

I did a 180. Quit work, went about creating an environment that was healthy and fulfilling. I spend my time enjoying life now. I now enjoy the house nad keeping order. My possessions are few and caring for things is pleasurable and quick leaving me plenty of time for other pursuits.

And even with half the take home pay, our finances are better.
