I had such a good idea of working from home on my computer but it turns out that no one has high speed internet in my area. Well there is a company that does but they charge $70 per month and there is no way I can afford that.

Of course all the WAH people require high speed internet connection so there is no way I can do it. I'm sitting here nearly in tears over this. I am literally out of ideas and just want to hide under the covers now.

Anyone else have to deal with this? Any suggestions?

I don't know if this would be possible, but the company that does offer it, do they give a discount for signing up? If they do, and you could afford the discount rate, maybe you could pay that till you start making some money working at home and you could pay the $70 after the discount expires. Hope this helps. I know how frustrating it is to find something.

we live in a very rural area, and when we moved here after calling the phone company, they said it would be around 2 years before they put it in. I rounded up the neighbors to CALL CALL CALL the phone company, and let them know that this area really needed high speed! It was in with in 6 months of us moving here!

I just don't know if we'd be able to swing that high of a rate with our other bills too, especially since I don't know how much I'd really be bringing in. I'll see if they do a discounted rate for a few months and see what we can do.

I will definitely try your idea. I doubt that many people would actually sign up but I know I can get them to call if I ask them too. Thanks.

Would WAH bring in more tahn $70 a month? If so then it's obviously a better bet to pay for high speed internet at $70 a month and make money or not get high speed internet and thus not make money.

The only way you "couldn't" afford this is if your WAH opportunies wouldn't bring in more than $70 a month.

Have you done the actual math? How many hours would you have to work to make it pay out for you?

Not trying to be dismissive about the cost, but have you thought it through all the way around?

good luck

depending on what you're doing from home, I would definitely sign up for it and get started. I work full time from home and make over $70 in a day. I would definitely encourage you to think long and hard about this. It's an investment - look at it this way there is no gas or special work clothes that you'll have to buy.

My only concern with going ahead and getting it set up is what if I don't actually get the WAH opportunities I am looking at. I know that they say you need to have everything set up before you even apply. I'll discuss it with dh tonight though and see what he thinks.

Some companies reimburse you the money for internet when you work for them. Or if they don't it is a tax write off at the end of the year also. Most companies around here that offer high speed internet have 2 different rates. They have a slower speed for less money, that is what I have and I can't really tell a big difference. I think it might be 256k or something but it is about $18 a month cheaper.
Those might be some options.
