Meaning do you have an account set aside to just save money, not kept in your checking account?

I will admit up until a few years ago, Dh and I did not. That was about the time ING was just starting to take off and we signed up with them, so now not only do I have a savings account but I have it branched...I have a savings, a tax account, and a Christmas fund

I wish I had been taught about money and savings sooner in life but I am trying to make up for it now and try to teach my kids what I wish I was taught.

I have 3. One is a small money market savings. The other is a larger one that we get better interest for if we have a minimum amount in it, so we try not to touch that one so we maintain the min. amount. Then I have a small one at my work credit union so I can readily grab money from the ATM here at work if I need some for lunch.

We have 3. One is the normal savings, another is a tax one and then we have one thru a credit union, when we purchased our car 5 yrs ago we where offered it so we thought why not they had very good incentives for it.

We just opened one from the money we saved during the spending freeze. It feels good to have one. Our kids have each had one for a year but we didn't have the money (or so we thought) to open one.

I have four. One at our regular bank, one at our old bank with great rates, and two for special purposes.

Each time dh gets a pay raise, we create another savings account. It may sound strange, but we really try to live BELOW our means and save whenever possible! We have one account labelled: birthdays, christmas and holidays (travel), one is our personal savings, another is kitchen and of course two separate accounts for the boys

Nope, never have, but we plan on starting one at the end of the month (yes, I am old and we have never had a savings account!)

We have one, but it's only got 18 dollars in it at the moment Moving expenses are killing us this month, but when we get settled into the new place we're going to rebuild a do-not-touch savings account.

We have savings at our bank, an ING savings account (plus one for the baby), a money market at my hubby's old credit union, plus an IRA. The only one we really use (put money into) is the ING. We just forget about the others.

Wow, this is an interesting thread. I have had one ever since I was 10, so I had always assumed that everyone had a savings account. Whenever I opened a checking account (I moved frequently until I got married), I would open up a savings account along with it. I always put just the bare minimum to get me by in my checking account, keeping the most that I can in savings to maximize interest accrual.

I am grateful to my parents for teaching me that! It has paid itself off 10 times over when times got tough or we have an emergency car repair, etc. come up.
