I like tax season as well. We always get a refund. I actually am one of those people who look forward to the money, since we are not the best savers...

This is my biggest pet peeve too! I hate that they are so complicated. Not sure what they are like in the US, but in Canada, goodness gracious, it's complicated. It takes me a whole day to do ours!

We always get a refund, but I can't really say I love tax season. We have ours done at H&R. We would never do them ourselves. We pay them and get our refund. It is just another part of life for us.

I'm not sure I agree with any of the choices. I'd be majorly bummed if we received a large refund because that would mean I didn't plan well and didn't have access to that money during the year. I don't mind paying a little. I rather not give up my money until I have to. The KEY for me, is seeing the BOTTOM LINE - comparing how much we really paid in taxes (as a percentage of our gross income) compared to last year.

As for having a business, you CAN pay quarterly taxes if you want. In some cases, you might even be required to file quarterly.

This year will be a hassle with state taxes. The company where my husband works got acquired during 2007. The new company didn't have an Idaho tax number so they withheld state taxes based on their corporate headquarters state. We don't owe taxes to that state but we do owe taxes to Idaho. Now I have to file non-resident taxes in that other state, hope to get most of the money back (I already checked and we won't get it all) and use that money to pay Idaho. Yuck!

I use turbo tax. We got smacked with the AMT. We usually got a refund but thanks to charitable contributions, we only owe $55. Aside from starting up a business, the only way to halt this progressive tax each year is to get a bigger mortgage. How does going into debt make sense?
