I used to be a CPA. I never did other people's taxes because I don't believe in the tax laws. Too much social engeneering. I did regular debit/credit accounting until I was pressured to monkey numbers.

I do my own taxes, grudgingly. I will not buy a package or hire someone else because there is something terribly wrong with the system if regular people can't sit down and do them pretty easily. A whole industry exists to provide people with a number that would, most of the time, NOT match what the IRS would say is the number. But we sigh a sigh of relief when the IRS processes but does not look at our return.

In pencil with a stamp on it, that is what they get.

I have been anxious to do our taxes for a few months now. I'm hoping the refnd will be enough to have a trip back home for a week to show our new baby!! This is going to hopfully, be a good refund, since we can claim both a child, and medical expenses for the first year ever. I know once we don't get a refund I won't be so ready for tax time, but until then, I'm always grateful for it.

Call me weird but I really like doing my Taxes. Yes we have had to pay and I am going to try and change our detuctions so we don't get as big of a refund this year but I like math and finances so its kind of fun

Wow - some of you are brave! I do my own with turbo tax. I couldn't do all of those forms without turbo tax. With deductions, home business, schedule c, etc - NO THANK YOU!

We always have to pay because of our business, payroll taxes were already due on Jan 15 (we're a LLC). Tax season stinks, we have to pay an accountant because he is much better than we are with the business taxes, so we have him do personal too, he's great at finding hidden deductions, and very fair with his price.
What's frustrating to me is that we do not even fall into middle class right now, yet we are still owing every year (and we did adjust to pull more from paychecks to try to help with the yearly shock). Something is wrong with this system.

We just did our...with Tax cut. I spent all last week doing paperwork and going thru reciepts to get it ready for my husband to put it in Taxcut. I have been about to pull my hair out!!! MY fault though because I didn't do my books every month...so I got behind.

LESSON LEARNED>>>THIS YEAR I WILL DO MY AVON BOOKS AT THE END OF EVERY MONTH!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN LOCKED INSIDE THESE WALLS FOR A WEEK SO WEDNESDAY I AM GOING TO SAM'S AND A FEW OF MY OTHER FAVORITE STORES....I JUST HOPE I DON'T SPEND MUCH.

DOES ANYONE KNOW?????? IS IT WORTH KEEPING UP WITH MEDICAL EXPENSES?? WE DO HAVE ALOT?? JAN 11 THIS YEAR WE PAID $1500 for wisdom teeth surgery for our son. And we spend ALOT on Perscriptions like $250 - $350 a month. I was thinking maybe I should keep up with it this year.

On a related note.

Last year(2006), 15% of americans were too poor to file. Another 27% filed but had no federal income tax liability and got everything back. That is 42% of americans paying no income tax. This year with the rebate/tax cut, that figure will rise to 50% for the first time since WWII.

I am afraid of class warfare.

I hate it!! We have a business (we're inc., so mega paperwork, tax liability, etc) and for me/us having a CPA is a necessity!! I do all the year round stuff; payroll, workers comp, etc...but I don't do the returns!
