DO NOT USE freecreditreport.com , it is not free. I was looking over our credit card statement and found out that for a year and a half, a 12.95$ a month have been deducted from our credit card under CIC triple advantage. I found out later that when you sign up at the freecreditreport.com you also sign up (without knowing) for their credit monitoring service. We called and they did not want to hear our complaint nor get us a refund for something we had never signed up for. Make sure you dont sign up for it and you look at your credit card statement closely.
I am not sure what we are going to do now. They have taken over $200

I've heard other reports of the scam. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Did you not notice for a long time that you were being charged or did you get a one time $200 charge for a certain period?

Details on a similar scam.

I went to a class years ago when i first started my business. One thing that the guy said that made sense is that if something is advertise as free, and they want a credit card or your bank account, then it is not free.

They do not need any of your credit card info or banking info if something is free.

In their defense, There is a disclaimer right on their homepage informing you that if you order your free report with them you will also be signing up for a free trial membership in Triple Advantage credit monitoring. If you don't cancel within 30 days you will be billed (14.95 now) to continue your membership.

They also go on to say to request a free credit report that you are entitled to 1 a year, to go to annualcreditreport.com.

DH and I have used annual credit report.com for the past 2 years now b/c you don't have to put in any CC info to get your information (free is free).

My husband is the one that had ordered the credit report and it was his credit card that got charged. It just happened that I logged in to see his statement and I happened to come across the triple advantage, when I asked him, he said that he never heard of it. I checked his past statements and saw that there was a charge of 12.95 every month for a year and a half now. I can't take care of it myself but I am really angry at this. I also noticed that we have been charged a 40$ suscription to Sports illustrated (we have never requested it either) and when he called to ask them to stop sending us the sports illustrated, they kept on sending it and he just never saw the charge on his CC. We are tryin to pay off our debts and I just feel so angry that such things happened. What else do I need to be aware of?

Honestly at this point all you can really do is chalk it up to a lesson learned. They do have a disclaimer stating it, Husbands aren't very good at reading the fine print (I know from experience ) And if you've been paying it a year and a half now, you really can't fight it b/c they will just say it's your fault you didn't look at your CC statement for all those other months. The most you can hope for is their cancelling it now and not being billed in the future for it. When you cancel it also ask them to send you a letter of confirmation.
Sorry that had to happen.

Always read the fine print and don't let DH do any ordering

Thanks for mentioning annualcreditreport.com -- I knew one of them was OK but couldn't remember which one!

It pays to look carefully at credit card statements, bills (what are all those misc charges?) and grocery store receipts.

If I may ask, why did you give them your cc# in the first place?? If it was FREEcreditreport, the red flag would be waving for me as to what exactly they want with my credit card for a service that is supposed to be free. Please be more aware from now on and like 2bearsmom said, always read the fine print.

One of my coworkers also had an issue with her husband, very simlar. To the tune of $1500! Her sh of a dh answered the phone one day, and it was one of those broken english telemarketers. He had no idea what he was signing up for, but I guess they said they would send him a walmart gc and $500 worth of coupons or some such garbage. She didn't realize what was going on till she saw her bank statement (she wondered where all her money was going) and there was several withdrawels of $122 for about 3 months, then a really big one. The bank closed her acct, reimbursed them all the NSF fees, and the police was notified. He really made a mess of that one. (her husband is a dingbat) Its too the point where now he says when he answers the phone "I can't make any decisions/answer any questions, ect, My wife will divorse me"

No really, the man is a nitwit. She pays all the bills, and when dell called with thier automated payment thing, he went ahead and okayed it. She had already sent out the payment by check!! NOW she has to cancel the check and pay $25 for that. Thats when I told her,I would take his phone answering privileges away. She said she is almost to that point.
