Mine isn't right, either. Sheeeesh!!! No wonder we are in sooo much debt in United States. I LOVE the idea of having to take a finance class in HS in order to graduate!!

My mom told me that had classes when she went to high school for personal finances. She learned how to balance a checkbook, etc.

There were no classes like this when I was in high school.

No, my state does not offer anything.

We hope to pass along our hard lessons learned to our children.

Doesn't surprise me that CA doesn't. How can high schools offer anything when education funding keeps getting cut?! Makes me frustrated and keeps our kids behind...

Ours is, but I hope things have changed. I was taught how to balance a checkbook in the 7th grade. Ok, I was 12? By the time I had my own checkbook do you really think I remembered how to reconcile one? High school would be ideal, like Junior or Senior year. But like I said, that was awhile ago and I hope things have changed.

We do in Utah! My MIL was actually a HS teacher and taught those classes.

I went to high school in California and every HS student there is required to take "Economics" to graduate. We learned about personal finances, leasing, loans, savings etc in my Economics class... maybe classes are different around the state but it's required.

I really think it should be required in High School. Unfortunately our state is an orange state. That's why I think parents really need to take personal accountability in teaching good budgeting and financial skills to their kids.

I cannot believe Idaho is actually there! Amazing! actually I knew this from when we worked with the boys -- they all loved the investing part and planned on making their millions! One is actually putting his knowledge to good use -- of course he does have the added benefit of having a wealthy father but at least he is being smart as well!

Nope, Alabama isn't one of the 7. I remember learning how to fill out checks and a brief overview of balancing a checkbook in 8th grade, but as another poster has said, it needed to be brought up again later.

Our's is not one of them- BUT in my High School I went to there was a "math class" that you had to take that regarded this subject- taught you all kinds of great "real life" finances and so on- I just wished I payed better attention and applied all that I learned in the class earlier in my adulthood ! I am proud to say that I am applying what I learned now!
