Default Gold dollars---should I use toward debt?

We have over $100 in Sacagawea gold coins (they have been circulated) and Susan B Anthonys. Each coin is worth only $1. If they were uncirculated they would be worth a lot more and I wouldn't consider depositing them. If I deposit them in our checking acct (to pay toward debt) will I regret it? DH & ds collect coins (they didn't collect these--I just held on to them whenever I would get them---mostly as change at the post office's stamp machine). Most of the coins they collect come directly from the U.S. Mint.

I would rather put them to use than to just have them sitting around. It's not a lot of money but it is something. Thanks for any input.

We have a couple gold ones we keep just because they are "nifty", but keeping $100 worth of them, when they are not uncirculated & therefore worth no more than $1 seems sort of pointless. I use the ones we get to tuck into cards for kids in the family & stuff like that. I'd cash them in, maybe keep 5 for tucking into cards, if you do that sort of thing.

The only reason I'd keep them is if they were apart of my emergency cash reserve. For instance, in case of a widespread power outage, you won't be able to buy needed supplies (or services) with a check, credit or debit card. People will want cash. For that reason we keep a few bucks at home, in small demoninations. Trust me, if there is an emergency and all you have is a $20 bill, that will suddenly be the price on whatever you're trying to get. No one will be in the mood to give you change.

I have $100 in Sacagawea gold coins that have not been circulated, and I've often thought of taking them to the bank and using them to pay down debt. I got them as a present from the company I work for as a company anniversary gift. Does anyone know how much these are worth or how to find out how much they are worth and then how/where to sell them, to get out of them what they're really worth?

THANKS!

Aren't they worth their face value? I don't know that they're worth more than that, even uncirculated, unless they're proof issues (in original packaging) in pristine condition...and even so, are they worth that much more? Might be something to research. Too bad they're not actually made of real gold! Perhaps do some research online? Or hit the library? Call a coin expert?

I would just keep a couple of each and deposit the rest since they aren't valuable.

I work at a bank... and i can tell you that if they are not uncirculated, your not going to regret it (IMO). Especially if it's to pay down debt. You can actually have the bank (at least the one i work in) order rolls (they come in rolls of $25) of the new presidential golden dollars and they are uncirculated and new. I would pay down my debt if i were you.

Great THANKS for the replies!

I did do a bit of searching online a few months ago when I was considering doing it, but couldn't really find much.

Maybe I'll keep a couple of them for the kids and deposit the rest and pay $100 in debt!!!
