Do you keep cash in your House " Just in case" or to Have for whatever Reason?

How much do you have?

I always Have a jar full of silver Change , I can Grab a Couple dollars out of in a Pinch.

I don't have a Substansial amount -
I want to Start Throwing ones in the Jar too - just to build up a Small cash Reserve , If I Can't Get to an ATM or bank.

When my Grandmom died she had $15,000 in her ( Broken ) Freezer!!

My Grandfather had also one time Dug a hole out back of his house and buried his thousands of dollars there.

They were both from the Depression era of course!!-

I am thinking along the lines of 50 bucks I want to Have on hand

I was just thinking about this the other day and we have nothing here (other than what's in my boys piggy banks). I try to keep an emergency $20 in my wallet and I was thinking maybe I should keep an emergency-something here at home. Not sure how much, or why really, but just what I'd been contemplating.

I do know we neede milk once during a snow storm and our neighbors were getting out and offered to bring us back some. We had to raid my sons piggy banks to pay them for it. We of course put the money back when we were able to get out again, but it's probably not a bad idea to keep some money on hand!

My DH is so bad with money that he never misses me putting away a dollar or two - or FIVE, sometimes. Up until a few days ago I had $100 put away!! Just one or two bucks at a time, mostly. Took me several months, but it was never missed and came in handy when we really needed it!!

I also have the emergency $20 in my wallet I don't know why I do that. $20 isn't going to get me very far since it takes $100 to fill up my Suburban. Other than change we don't keep any money at home. I guess stockpiling food or hiding money in the house makes me feel paranoid.

My oldest was 6 months old when Hurricane Isabelle came through Maryland. I'm not use to having hurricanes. I stockpiled water, food, cash and supplies. Maybe the post partum hormones were still raging. The storm didn't do much here but some of our family in PA had flooded basements.

I have some cash at home that is truly for emergencies...not when I need tip money for the hair-dresser. LOL Otherwise, I really don't deal in cash all that often.

Yes, I always have some cash on hand and it has come in handy.

I keep about $100 in cash in my wallet. It used to be just an emergency $20 but that fell short far too often. One time I was with a girlfriend who was dealing with moving people. The guys were sort of holding her furniture hostage. It turned out, if she 'tipped' them $80 they'd unload the truck. Thankfully, I had the cash on hand otherwise the situation would have turned out rather ugly. I've also seen times when a tow-truck driver will only take cash. In cases like that, having a small emergency fund helps.

We also have a cash reserve at home. One time we got a late night phone call that one of my husband's family members was dying. I had to stay at home but told my husband to just GO to be with his family. Time was short and my husband was obviously upset. It was such a blessing to be able to grab the cash reserve and hand it to him so he had one less thing to worry about.

In other words, it doesn't take a natural disaster to see the need for a cash reserve.

Thats kind of what I am thinking too!

I forgot about the kids Piggy Banks

Between theirs and My Change , I am sure we have close to 100.00 here, if there is an emergency need in which We were so desperate we had to Gather the 10 lbs of Coins.

Still , I am going to start Saving my Ones , just to Get into the habit , so I can Grab the money ,
to tip the pizza guy , or to give to My son when the neighbors ask him to Go to the movies - and He needs Money " now!"
Also, I can Remember times when we Had to Go to the hospital or Other Place quickly and We had to Stop at the bank for cash ( in the 90's Before mac machines were everywhere)

Oh Come to think about it , i went to get gas the other night and Their Computers were Down - They were taking Cash ONLY !! I had None as always , so I had to Drive to another gas station. I was on E too.

Note to self: start a small cash reserve for the glove box of my Car too!!

I hide a $20 in the back of my checkbook and I have a jar in the laundry room for anything that gets left in pockets.

I swear my children have more hidden in their rooms than I have in my whole purse!!

I forgot my wallet one time when I went to the store, that was horrible! Now I always keep $100 hidden in different places, $100 hidden in my van (this is great if I have to pay for towing or something also), $100 hidden in a seperate section of my purse, and a couple $100 hidden in our house. I'm not too paranoid about the banks failing, but I know some that have thousands hidden in their house b/c they are.
