I remember a few years ago when they sent out the rebate checks. That did work in stimulating the economy. Although I have my doubts this time, I'll take the check.

I also remember all the "Come shopping here with your rebate checks and we'll cash them for you" advertisements. AND I remember being surprised at the end of the year when I discovered we had to pay taxes on that rebate money.

We will not get a check, we are just barely over the limit.

I also wonder about the tax implications next year. WooHoo, I get to pay taxes on $1500!Or will $1500 be added directly to the total tax I owe?

The biggest boost to the economy that I see if all the advertising that the checks are coming. People tend to act like Congress. They see a certain amount of money coming in and tend to spend that amount PLUS. So I think many people are going to calculate that they will get anywhere from a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars then run out TODAY and spend that amount of money on credit cards. They will then NOT use that money to pay off the credit cards and instead spend the checks AGAIN. That will boost the economy!

What will we be doing? We're going to Disneyland.

We were going to go to Disneyland anyway.

Funny you should say that. My dad owns a furniture store and he said he has just been beat down by all the people coming in the last couple of weeks. People haven't even received their income tax returns and they're coming in and putting down payments on things until their check comes in. This comes after the last six months being so slow he's barely covered his expenses. Ask anyone in business and they'll tell you an election year is horrible for businesses b/c everyone is worried about who will be elected and what it will do to the economy...so this ought to make for an interesting year.

Although I don't agree with the way we are receiving th money.....any extra money that comes into our house will be a blessing. 2007 was such a horrible year for us financially But we have high hopes for 2008.

Interesting. But I'm glad that the extra cash will be coming.

I don't think it is just a straight check free and clear- I heard it is a rebate towards your next years taxes. So basically a loan on a refund you could possibly get next year.

I'm so glad to hear it, from what I understand it won't go astray over there. This week I just found out that as we are on a low family income and get the full familty tax benift then at the end of the financial year if we haven't over estimated our income and haven't recieved an over payment (which we won't because I make sure I over estimate our income) then we will get $1500 for each child and an extra $400 (as we have 3 kids that will be great).

That's if Mr. rudd (our Prime Minister) doesn't change things with his cost cutting that he is doing, I don't think he will then (I really hope not) as he will be very unpopular with the low income people if he did.

So ladies good for you. I hope you all get it.
