I don't think it would be fair that your share would go towards debt. I would say if you are in debt, you should put your entire refund towards it and start saving a little a month for a new tv. My dh wants a tv also, I told him he better sell his car LOL (he wants one that is almost $5K), I'm not spending that much for a tv. Now if you have enough refund left after debt and already have a nice savings, I'd say give you and your dh each some splurge money.

I don't think it's fair that he would be the only one getting to splurge on something. Since both of you incurred the debt/bills, both of you need to pay it off together. On the same note, if he gets a splurge gift then so should you. You both work hard to maintain your lifestyle. So maybe after the bills are paid you can set aside 1/3 for savings. 1/3 for you to spend on something you want and 1/3 for him to spend on what he wants. At least that's how I would do it.

For me and DH paying off debt and bills comes first. Then savings. Then splurging.

Good Luck! I am sure the two of you will come to a compromise that satisfies the both of you according to the needs of your family.
