I am due to give birth 2wks before to 2wks after Christmas... I know there is NOTHING I an buy for a newborn baby that really matters, but it's just the fact that I don't want to feel like I'm leaving baby out. Should I get him/her a little something? and if so... What? TIA

I think a blanket is a wonderful idea. Something you could hang on to as a keepsake.

My ds was born christmas eve. I bought him a first christmas ornament with his name on it. And you have to remember it's a whole year before you celebrate there birthday or christmas so I bought toys that he could use throughout his first year. My dd was born right before thanksgiving so I did the same for her.

We always played soft music for our babies, so when two of mine were due at Christmas time, we bought them a $20 tape player from Santa....One made it before, but one made it 5 days late!! We just kept it hidden from the other kids and set it out on her dresser after Christmas. I would maybe just wrap up a few little items, more for the other children's sake..and for the new baby's Babybook!!

I am a bad mommy- I didn't buy anything for either child for their first Christmas. We had so many gifts from relatives, I couldn't think of a single thing else to buy that wouldn't fall into the "buying stuff just to have stuff" category. Instead, we took a bunch of pictures and wound up with some great ones for each kid.

I wrote a poem to my son, who was due December 14th, but was born on the 9th. I printed it nicely on some pretty paper and framed it. It's still in his room.

Just do what you feel. Just get lots of pictures. I always got a first Christmas ornament. A nice little bright toy to look at would be fun, and a little musical toy. We got a little pink wind up lamb at Carters that dd loves. They will always grow into their toys.

DS was bron the week after Thanksgiving and we did the same thing. Just put them away after Christmas and bring them out through out the year.

My friend brought up the point that when they look back at pictures they will ask "Why didn't I get anything that year?"

We put away Christmas and Bday gifts for both kids. (Both have Bdays just before or right after Christmas) It saves us alot when they get bored of their toys midway through the year! DD still has 1 toy left in her closet and a tub full of books!
