Don't know if I should post this here are somewhere else. If it's in the wrong place, I apologize. Anyway, with Ebay changing I've decided not to mess around with them anymore. I thought I would give Craigslist a try but I'm totally clueless. For those that have experience using it, can you give me some ideas on how the whole thing works. How do people get the stuff, pay for it, etc. What happens if someone buys something and then isn't satisfied...things like that. Any help would be much appreciated.

Craigslist is basically just free classifieds adds, you post what you have if you have pics great. People will contact you via email (then maybe leave a phone # or something in their email) and you choose to either have them pick up at your home (the usual) or in a public place (what we've been doing lately). I list anything I have as sold as is, no refunds. Usually if they're not satisfied they'll know right away when you show them the item and they won't take it. There's no feedback system or anything, its not like Ebay at all, like I said, its just a free classfied ad place.

I've also found out (the hard way) state in your ad that you won't hold anything. I get a lot of people asking me to hold items and they never show. I always state in my ad that first come first serve. Or something like will only hold for one day. Craigslist has surprised the heck out of me as well. We took out some really old nasty shower doors and didn't want to haul them to the dump, we took a chance and posted them on craigslist for free and had over 20 offers in 30 minutes to come and pick them up. I don't what people would want with old shower doors, which the ad specially said old nasty shower doors.

It also helps, at least in my opinion if you post a photo of what your selling. My description of something always differs from some ones else's. I'm more apt to look at a description if I see a photo.

I've never sold anything, just bought. It's not bad. It's local, you fin what you need, call/email and appointment and go check it out. If no picture on craigslist, ask them to email you one first. I had good experiences.

Up until last month I only bought items on Craigslist. I never had any issues. I am having trouble selling items on Craigslist though. I get several replies from people who are interested and then I never hear from them. I have sold only $25.00 worth of baby items. I think I may just wait until spring and have a garage sale.

I've had great luck with Craigslist. I keep my items listed until the are picked up and I have the cash in my hands. Usually I have more than one person contact me for each item, I try to let the first person pick it up, give them a time to meet me, if they are a no show or change their mind for some reason, I move on to the second person and give them the chance to buy from me.

i sold tons of stuff on craigslist last fall. make your stuff reasonalby priced i always offer to deliver or meet in a public place i won't allow strangers to my home i have small children and there have been instances where people have been killed thats just not a good idea.. a target parking lot or grocery store are good places where there are people around if i'm dropping at someones house i take someone with me my mil is a good ride along for me.. i always attach pics items sell way faster that way make sure you put in the description any flaws so they are aware ahead of time.. i always say cash only and sold as is.

i noticed tons more people are selling on our area craigslist i'm sure becuase ebay is becoming so expensive.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions! Our HOA is having a community rummage sale in a couple of weeks. I need to decide if I want to do that or try to sell things online.

my .02

i love craigslist because its FAST and FREE! you dont have to wait a week, two weeks for a transaction to end to get your money.

i am about to list some things that i want gone before spring - and i dont want to give them away at a garage sale. my rule of thumb is - if its worth alot of $$ or highly collectable, then ebay it. if you dont give a frig about the money and want it gone, garage sale it. but if you want some money for it and dont want to "give it away" at a garage sale, then craigslist it!

i am craigslisting my plastic outdoor stuff. like my basketball hoop thing. at a garage sale no one would give me 10 bucks for it - but they will on craigslist!

take lots of pictures too!
