So, I just got back from getting my dad to do my taxes. If DH puts $1000 into an IRA, we can get $150 more refund on our taxes. Pretty tempting! But my dad said to look at Fidelity - the only problem is we mus open an account with $2500 minimum. We really just want to do the $1000. Anyone like where they have their IRA through or have any suggestions?

I wouldn't suggest a traditional IRA, which is the one you would get tax benefits from. I would go for a Roth. You pay money on the taxes now, so when you go to withdraw, you withdraw tax free. You should check into ING. You only need $250 to open an IRA with them.

Check with an accountant but I'm pretty sure a Roth IRA is NOT deductible on your 1040 - only a regular IRA.

My dad is the accountant and told me to do a traditional IRA. Thanks for the tip on ING - I was thinking about them, but they didn't have too much information on their website.

You can open an IRA with T. Rowe Price for only $50/month minimum contribution if you direct deposit it from your bank account. They have some good offerings.

Yeah you don't get tax benefits from a Roth, but they are better in the long run. Just something to think about.

You can request info from the ING website and a rep will call you. They are very friendly. You don't have set it up to make monthly contributions. I was concerned about having the extra $50 a month and they told me I could send in money when I had it available. I liked that option.
