That is very interesting, thanks! I just did that a few weeks ago with my local energy Co. They all have energy saving tips on their websites too

Wow! Did you notice the difference between washing your clothing on hot vs. cold? It was over $0.70 a load!

Thanks for the info.

That was really informative. Thanks for posting that. I love using my crock pot. I always wondered if it used a lot of electricity though (it's on most of the day) but 4 cents and hour is great!

I was amazed at the cost of hot wash! But, those towels need it.

We have an ancient washing machine (probably close to 18-20 years old), and an old refrigerator (at least 15 years old and probably older). We are considering replacing them because of energy and water costs. Does anyone have any info on cost savings for new appliances vs. old in terms of electricity, or in the case of a washing machine, water? I'm not into spending huge money on appliances just for fun, but the washing machine alone has to be costing us tons in water (we have a family of 5 and the thing is going all the time).

Hmm, I would think that it would be cheaper to keep the old appliances, because the cost of replacing them would far outweigh the dollars you would save my getting a newer one. My husband and I were in the same boat, our fridge was from '95 so we did the costs, and after figuring out the cost of a new fridge (950) compared to the cost we would save by it being more energy efficient (4.75 dollars a month). So in the meantime we saved up 80 dollars a month for a year and a half, had a little more than we needed, and our old one broke, and we were able to buy a new one without financing it!

This site is from New Zealand, so their dollar is a little higher than ours.
