DH was telling me two days ago about his co worker. He said that his bank is somewhere in the Carolina area I don't remember if it was South or North Carolina its start with a "P" I don't remember the rest. Anyway, he said that his bank charges him $30 everytime a money get deposited in his account. I find that really strange. Anyone else heard about this?

The real question is, "Why doesn't he switch banks?" That does sound odd.

I agree. I find it fascinating that people continue to pay high fees and yet try and save 30 cents off here and 20 cents off there in coupons. I have a friend who loves to save money whenever she can but recently admitted her monthly bank fees are $34 a month. Mine are $0. If she sat down and wrote a few letters to change her automatic payments, and set up her new account, in the space of about 3 hours she could save herself $408 a year. I've been banking with my bank for 10 years now. That's $4800! It's worth the 3 hours to me and yet she said, "I just never have the time to get around to switching."

It is most likely an international wire transfer. We had one to BOA last year from Italy and they charged me about $35 as I recall. I don't think most banks like dealing with them because they see red flags, ie. money laundry.

if he's getting wire transfers then yes it's a legit charge.

I had a company I worked for for a few months. Instead of hiring me as an employee they brought me on as an independent contractor (IC).

Since I was an IC they can not do direct deposit as that's a sign to the IRS that one is an employee, thus I got wire transfers.

I don't remember mine being that high as $30, but is was large enough of a charge that I expensed it back to the company... ha!
