We live in the farming community and have been suprised that this hasn't happened sooner. I do agree the prices are up but we have to remember the cost to harvest and ship good out are expensive now too.
Seed prices, and grain for animals are so high now, some of us have had to reduce our animals on the farm because we are having to grow our own grain to try and keep costs down. That grain is now using up fields we would have used for cash crops. Then there is the cost of gas for the machinery. The cost to ship the goods. Plus we are dealing with foot & mouth, BSE and the ever threaten of chicken flu. The worries never end.
You will see anything that contains wheat go up quiet a lot in the next fews weeks. You will be surprised what all contains wheat. Wheat in North American has always been a stable and has been really in-expensive, but when it hits us all at once, it seems like a huge cost on the budget.
That being said I have noticed that this week up here in Canada vegetables have been the lowest they have been in months. Beef lately has dropped as well, and I don't know why? But breads and cereals are jumping fast.
