I have cut back on a lot of grocery store luxuries. The regular food is getting so expensive that I can't justify the luxury food anymore. I used to go to the Fresh Market (it is like a smaller Whole Foods) every couple of weeks but I haven't been since before Christmas. I can't get out of there for less than $75 and that is for a few bags of food. No more. I miss their beautiful organic produce and all the yummy healthy prepared food, but it is just wasteful to spend our money on that.

I have also cut back on little errands and trips to Target. When I did the spending freeze in Jan. one of the unexpected benefits was the huge savings on gas. Ever since, I have realized I can make one tank of gas last at least 2 weeks which saves me $100 a month, not to mention the savings from avoiding the little shopping outings. Now I keep a list on the fridge and only go to Target every couple of weeks instead of running out for just a couple of things and really just for something to do.

I just read that article last night and I thought it was funny when they said that the new status isn't to show how much you have but you're ability to show how much you don't spend. I wonder if this will really catch on. It seems as if mommysavers is one step ahead of the game. I have always been frugal, not just now that it seems to be the thing to do, or the newest trend. I think that frugal and environmental also go hand in hand.

we are making better choices with our money i was going to town again 2 times a week but i am back to one in order to save gas.. we are going to put up our swimming pool this year so we don't have to pay for gas and a pool pass to go since its 30 miles one way... i was starting to slip on my grocery bill but have gotten back on track and not buying pre-packaged foods.

When I decided to quit my job back in August, we began cutting back on "unneccesary" expenses, such as my twice a week Starbucks habit, so we have been in that mode for awhile. Lately I have slipped up a bit and have been spending like crazy, so maybe thinking about a recession will help motivate me to tighten our belts again.

I've been tightening up for a while, before there was any talk of a recession. Discovered Dave Ramsey last year and that's what really started it for me. I had gotten burned out for a while, partly because some things beyond our control happened and I just had a defeated attitude. Getting back on track now and this site definitely helps. I wish I had found it last year when I gave up!

We have definately cut back on spending. My dh husband lost his job about a year ago-work was sent down to Mexico. It conveniently happened three months after we moved into the new house we just fininshed building. he was attending school but with our first child on the way he decided to quit. He has started his own business but that doesn't provide what we were making a year ago.We drive my car only bc of cost of gas it gets better milage. We do not have cable satelite or even tv antenna. I'm sure there are other things i just can't think of those are the big things

I've been trying to be more careful wtih my money since starting the FTJ project. For me, it's not about recession (I'm not too worried about it) but about being mindful in what I do and make conscious choices. I think it's easy to get wrapped up in consumerism if you aren't careful. It takes a conscious effort to avoid it.
