My church is having a yard sale the first weekend in April. We don't live in a big city and last year when I had a yard sale it was not successful This year I thought about having one the weekend of the churches year sale. The problem is I feel like I am taking money from the church by not donating our things to the church mainly because the church is about a mile from our house. Do you think I should feel this way even if we could use the money?

If you had a sale last year and didn't make much money, and if you're doing it the same wknd as the church sale, you may get even less people coming. I'd be tempted to just give the stuff to the church and not have to hassle with it. But it's really up to you.

If your paying for a table, then you are giving some to the church!

I'm saving my things for our church yard sale. They will give me a receipt for a donation. I don't do yard sales, they aren't worth it for me.

If you need the money, then do it! Maybe you can donate some of your proceeds to the church.

I prefer to do charity yard sales because I can't give as much money to them as I would like. It is just a little extra, but I feel good about it.

You could always donate a few good items to the church and then have your sale a different weekend. That's what i would do anyway.

Take care,
Jodie

Have your yard sale the same weekend and don't feel bad about it. Make big signs and lead people to your sale. You aren't hurting the church, they don't have the money from your stuff now, and they aren't going to miss it. The number one thing to remember about having a yard sale is signage. With the cost of gas, people do not want to drive around looking for your sale. Make sure you have good signs and you will do fine.

Yard sales are SO worth my time and energy!! i make around 250-300 bucks nearly everytime I have one. I have 2 per year...and do very well both times. I'm having my first one since last year in 4 weeks and I'm looking so forward to it. People around here look for my sales b/c they know they are gonna get name brand clothes gently worn for very cheap ( and lots of other goodies too)!! I'll let you know how it turns out.

I find that yard sales don't do much for me. It is alot of work and I haven't ever made much. I do find that consignment sales (for the kids stuff) is very worth it for me. Check in to one of them and then give the church the rest of the items for their sale. If you need the money though do what you need to do the Church will understand.
