the last "what would you do" post got me thinking about this. I know some people who start right away at maybe 22 and others who wait until their mid 30s and even others who wake up and realize "whoops!"

Dh and I started around 22, but not very much...at all.

21/22, right after college. I think we both started with $150 a month. We were in the Navy, and I was eating a lot of spaghetti.

Great question. We started saving at 28/29. Wish we started earlier. Then we took it all out to buy our house when we were 35/36 . (In Canada you can borrow up to $20,000 each from your retirement savings tax free and pay it back over 15 years) so we're starting from scratch again.

i started at 20 when i got my first real job that offered it dh started at 26 when he quit working for the family business and got into a big company.. i'm glad we started in our 20's we will be better off in retirement then we are now. we can borrow against ours but would never do that unless it was an emergency. i've seen my dad and bro cash theirs out when they switched jobs or bought something big over the years and now they are at an age where they won't get that back at amlost 42 and 62 they have pretty much nothing for retirement.

I am 22 and have no retirement savings,
DH has a retirement account through his work, he has worked there for 2 years so he started when he was like 24.
