I love garage sales! I just never have enough stuff to have my own sale. I would definitely do it if I had enough, because it's a lot of fun! I would have a ton of clothes to sell, but I always offer them to my 14 year old sister (I dress mostly casual) and she takes just about everything! The rest I have always donated to a family we know who can't afford to buy their teenage daughter "cool" clothes. She really appreciates them, because I buy a lot of the hollister clothes on sale for myself - the ones that pass for age appropriate, of course! The rest of the stuff (non clothing) I donate to our parochial school, that has a huge sale with donated items as a fundraiser.

It really depends on your area! Where we used to live, garage sales were definiitly not worth it!! Here they are!!! I can make a couple of hundrend dollars easily and clean out the house at the same time!!

I don't do them...having them or going to them. It's just something I never got into. As far as getting rid of "Stuff" clothes we have a few friends that I can hand down to and I feel good about that and other items goto Goodwill, or the curb (it almost ALWAYS gets picked up by someone. We usually do goodwill a few times a year since it is right down the road and it is tax deductible.

Absolutely worth it in my opinion. We have one once a year with a bunch of families and get tons of people. I usually make around 300 dollars, but even if I didn't it would still be worth it to me to get rid of STUFF that overtakes my house.

It is such a refreshing feeling to come home after a garage sale and it ALL GONE!

I love to go garage saleing also, but try to limit my purchases to things I actually need. If not, the STUFF piles start all over again.

I have had a garage sale every year for the past three years. A few weeks ago my friend and I had one together. We cleared about $300 and split it. Actually we decided to have at least one garage sale a year and the money we made would go toward our annual Mommy's Weekend Out that we just started this year. This year we spent the weekend in Carlsbad shopping at the outlet, going to see a movie, and hanging out. Next year we are planning to spend the weekend in the Temecula Wine Country, tasting wine, and then spending the day at the day spa. We had a couple of big ticket items that went and the rest was clothes and piddly stuff.

And we have one rule...once it's in the garage for the garage sale it NEVER goes back into the house. So immediately after the garage sale we enlist the help of our hubbies to take the left overs to Salvation Army while we clean up.

The other 2 garage sales that I had on my own I cleared between $300 and $500 each time.

So for me it is totally worth it. I de clutter my house and make some money.

I think it's absolutely worth it...well with the exception of the last one I did! LOL

I even pack my crap up and drive it 2+ hours to my mom's so I can do the yard sale with my sisters and mom. We have a great time sitting in the garage chatting, we enjoy people watching and talking to all the people who stop by. We usually see some friends that we haven't talked to in years. I'm sure we have a good turnout because we advertise it as a 4+ family yard sale (often one or more of my cousins or aunts will also send stuff, or come themselves to help out).

We often take in $1000 or more in the 2 days we're set up. Unfortunately last year my part was about $20 after my portion of the newspaper ad! LMAO And i had TONS of baby stuff in it last year - it was just the first (and only) year that baby stuff just wasn't selling well.

I don't think they are worth it. I usually take my kids stuff they can't wear or toys they don't want and put them in a consignment sale and make $300 each time. I held two garage sales and only made $160 for both of them. I have ebayed things but I don't like to do that I never seem to make much. I am thinking of using Craig's list but for now I am just donating that stuff. It is making life easier for me.

DEFINATELY worth it for this family! We do one every year and have ALWAYS made over $700 on ours! It's not only worth it for the $$$$, it makes us get rid of things we don't need. We're having ours in May this year, lots of newborn- size 6 month clothing, maternity clothing and some small furniture pieces of ours to get rid of...Plus my parents "downsized" their home since all their kids are out of the house, they just moved in to a two bedroom. The lived in a large 6 bedroom before, so they have TONS of stuff to sell! My parents will bring all of their stuff over here for our sale.

but it was always worth it for my mom and dad. I will be trying it for myself this year and we will see. I figure that a little money is better than throwing it away.
