Do you have someone other than your spouse you can talk to about money and/or debt?
I have a friend that knows most (if not all) the details We decided to start a "sort of" Dave Ramsey system at the same time as following the Jonses project, and I tell her everytime something is paid off or paid down or I can call on her if I just need to talk about it. (I don't have to worry about any new credit card confessions b/c those are put away and not used )
Do you have a goto person for money/ debt vents highs and lows?

No , not really...I wish I did...I think that's why I come here so much cuz it gives me someone to talk to who understands....
I do have one friend who I know is also pretty frugal but we never talk about specifics. I think a lot of people just are not comfortable talking about this stuff.

No, I don't, but I sure wish I did. I think it is easier to talk to someone who isn't a relative. My family, and inlaws, like to pry, but I don't want them knowing all of our business. I just typed up a memo for my mom that has all of our financial info on it incase something happens and I just plan on updating it when necessary.

Nope, I don't. If we had a lot of trouble though, I would probably try to find someone. NOT my mother though - she is a huge gossip, and doesn't have a clue what the word private means.... The post office accidentally delivered one of my CC bills to her house, and she proceeded to open it and read how much our bill was. It was right after our honeymoon, so it was pretty big, since we took only our credit cards since they are pretty safe to travel with (we pay off the amt when we get home). We only took about $50 cash each and didn't use it. She then calls me and freaks out about how much the balance was, and how I had never been capable of handling money. She doesn't understand that frugality can be adopted as a lifestyle even when you AREN'T in financial trouble.
Oh, and then SOMEHOW it gets leaked to her entire side of the family that we have money problems (Which is far from the truth!).....grrrr.... I was so embarrassed when people came up offering to help if we ever needed it. It was a nice gesture on their part but I had to tell them the whole story.....I still get irritated when I think about that!
Wow, I didn't realize I was still so upset about that! Sorry everyone, about the rant!

I talk to my parents about saving, investing, loans, etc But not in detail. And I know if we ever got into serious trouble we could go to them.

Most of the time I feel as if I'm financially from another planet anymore, so no. I have so many friends, really brilliant people in so many ways, who "never got around" to starting their 401k even though our company will match your ONE percent contribution with NINE percent (900% instant return). Those same friends who can't give up that ONE percent short term to get NINE percent more of their salary long-term (plus their own 1%) will have cleaning services come in, and eat out all the time at really nice restaurants, and all that. Yet drinking water a few times at some of those restaurants would be enough to cover that 1% less they would have out of their paychecks. Almost all of my friends have half our income but live a lifestyle that is twice as large and really act as if they wouldn't bend down to pick up $20 if it fell out of their pocket in the street. I don't know. It's a very isolating feeling sometimes.

I can talk about it to DH, but he gets tired of it after a while. I can also talk to my dad about finance, but would never give him details on ours. He doesn't share that info either, but I know he and Mom have done well, so I listen and respect what he has to say.
I agree that most people are not comfortable talking about personal finance. I've seen a 'certain look' come over friend's faces when I mention not spending $$ on something because I'm working toward certain financial goals. I get the impression they think we're struggling, when that's not the case at all. When I mention 'living below your means', no one ever agrees out loud. lol. I know people who are working 6 days a week, and spending on things that could be considered 'convenience' or 'luxury' items, but that's their decision. I don't feel pressured to do the same.

I don't now, but I have had in the past. My old boss and also the office manager were very open and helpful. I learned quite a bit from them. I also went to a mortage company and talked with one of the loan agents to see if I was ready to purchase a home and how much we could afford. She was very helpful. If I had not talked to her there were several mistake I could have made when we decided to buy. Luckily I remembered her warnings! My husband was impressed and proud of me when I did not fall for the tricks. I also try to watch financial shows. I have gotten some good advice from them as well.

my parents are my forte, for they are brilliant people w/ an amazing savings culture. Dh and I trust them over anyone else and take their advice to heart. I feel fortunate to have them both, and I feel I've grown through their advice. On the other hand, im not specific with other people regarding my finances, but I feel as though people come to me for advice and I try to help them as best as possible.
