Sorry, Kathryn, I didn't remember that part, just the after taxes part. I still would not do it. It is too expensive to live here on less than $50K. And to lose investment income? Nope. Not worth it.

No way, we couldn't even pay our bills on that.

Absolutely!!! I'm with KatrhynHannah on the thoughts that I could volunteer and spend my time doing what I thought was important. We used to make LOTS more because I was an engineer, and I made more than my husband, but when I got pregnant, I quit work cut our income by over half. I realized how much less you can live on when you make your money do the work for you. But, that's just for me, I realize some women want to work and enjoy the challenge, and there is nothing wrong with that either. And where I live, cost of living is really good, so 50,000 a year would suit me just fine. Especially once my house was paid off, we'd REALLY be living good.

But, you can't make your money work for you in this offer. No investment income. . .
Does that change your answer? It is a deal breaker for me.

I wouldn't take it either. It's less than what DH makes now and raising our family of 6 here in SoCal with only $50,000 wouldn't cut it.

HECK NO!!! No way!
(You can't work for money, but can you work for goods? ie. food, gift cards, or clothing and such??) I'd still say no way regardless of this anwer, but it might help others' answer.

I'd have to say nope.
True, but there is no way that I'd be able to save enough to send 4 boys to college and that has to come first before I can think about retiring.
Interesting question!

I'm thinking yes. We live on less than that now. I'm not saying I'd spend every minute with dh, though.
