What do you do about checks that haven't cleared? Do you call the business? or the person? or the school?? Or do you just let things ride out?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves Our school district & 4H are the WORST at depositing checks because they "hold" them until they have a large deposit amount. I have checks that I have written to 4H in Jan. that haven't cleared. They aren't large amounts, and I know they are outstanding...this just BUGS ME!! grrrrrrrrrr ~

I just had this happen with a check I wrote back in the fall from a stamping party. She kept the thing about 3 months before ever taking it to the bank. Totally messed up my check register and I had to keep reminding myself about it. I didn't call her -- I didn't even know her. Needless to say, when it finally went through, I was very surprised.

What timing....I wrote out a $4 check to my daughters school in November for a concert we attended and they still haven't cashed it! I'm going to send an email to the band director as soon as I get my bank statement this week and ask. Its only $4 but I need to know one way or another what their plan is.

Our PTA and Boy Scout pack are the worst for me. I just keep a running list on the front of the checkbook register to remind me...

i also keep a running list of those types of checks i have several out now for a couple of months and one out for about 7 months now.. there is no satue of limitaions on checks anymore unless it says void after 90 days ect on it so if i gave you a check 2 years ago you found it and wanted to cash it you could as long as the acct was still open...our pto is the worst and the american heart accoc is terrible as well.

I wonder if handwriting that on your checks would work

It depends on what the check is for!

I do all of my banking online and using quick books, so the check is always deducted from the account and I can keep track of it.

But if it is something like for child support or light bill, phone bill etc...I just call the place of that I sent the check too!

Our landlady is like that! Grr it's nice when we are tight on cash to know we have some wiggle room in case something comes up, but it irritates me to that I hurry to get her the check on time and then she doesn't cash it for almost a month. Speaking of which she still hasn't cashed our security deposit that we paid a year ago. We are just figuring that she's not going to cash it until we move out if we owe her money or give it back to us if we don't. It's irritating though.

I am notorious for not taking checks to the bank. I have a home based direct sales business. I have more incoming checks than outgoing with that checking account and will run out of deposit slips much more quickly than the checks. (We don't use ATM or online banking) So sometimes I will wait awhile (usually no more than a couple of months) to deposit them so that I have quite a few to deposit at once.

I guess I never fully realized how frustrated people get over this.

You could go into your bank lobby once and pick up a stack of counter deposit slips. You still have to write the account number on it, but you wouldn't have to worry about running out of deposit slips.
