Not really but. I just called my credit card companies and spent 30 minutes talking to them, and after taking off some charges and lowering interest rates on all 3 cards, I was able to save a little over $200.00. And the funny thing was for one of my cards, the customer svc rep that I got was actually from India (atleast that's what it seemed like from his accent), and when he heard what my name was, he started being "friendly" with me. I was late on my last months payment (by 5 days), so they had charged me late fee (and I pay my payment in full every month), so that had racked up my interest rate, well first he said he wouldn't be able to lower the rate or remove the charge, and I'm like is that the best you can do since I've been a loyal customer since '95, and after me telling him that i would like to cancel my card (and I would have if he didn't change it), he lowered the rate and took of the late charge.

So take some time out and call the credit card companies and see if they can lower your rate.

Threatening to cancel always helps get you what you want! Glad you got them to work with you!

Actually, I'm not doing Forget the Joneses. Seems I'm full on track with my finances, but I do read it once in a while to see if I'm missing something.

yes it never hurts to call i got mine (we have a large amount of cc debt) all to lower to 0% and have a fixed payoff plan... be honest i wanted to pay the money i borrowed but the interest was preventing me from doing so guess what alot of people are defaulting most companies will work with just call and ask.

Good work!

I tried to lower a rate once and then threatened to cancel when they said no. she laughed and asked how I was planning to cancel it if I had a balance. so I said, um, ah...lets say it was stolen and dont re-issue me a new card. she did say she would report as stolen but would be sneding me a new card that I could cut up. no break in interest rate.

I actually called to cancel one of my cards after I got it paid off and they asked me what they could do to keep us a customer.
They gave us a 0% ARP for 6 months and then lowered the APR to a third of what it was. I was happy. At that point I could have gotten just about anything that I wanted... they offered quite a bit to keep us.

Calling is always worth it even if they won't lower anything. Then you know to call back after you got a great deal in the mail and tell them that unless you get a better rate that you will transfer your balance to that card and cancel your account because even with the balance transfer fee you would be saving money... they will be more likely to work with you then.
