Just as a matter of perspective, over 2.6 BILLION people live on less than $2 a day. That is 40% of the world's people. Sometimes it helps to realize how fortunate we are here in the US.

We make 50-55,000 a year and we struggle at times!! But this is more due to poor choices.... than the actual cost of living. I live near Pittsburgh PA and I think to afford a nicer home, cars, and activities for kids, etc you need to make about 70,000. But you are living well if you make 100,000!

In NJ, $100,000+ would be a decent base salary.

Sorry, I was looking over my husband's last years pay stub and looking at what he really brought home after taxes, property taxes, sewer, water, utilities, pension and car insurance.

I seriously do not know how we did it.

I think 80K is a good-to-decent family salary for your regular cost of living areas. I know families would need alot more in the high cost of living areas.
