Allowance Breakdown - MSN Money

An interesting article -- though I think I was most interested in the first two kids mentioned in this family. One kid gets and $80.00 a week allowance and the other gets $120.00! Money "to do whatever they want with"! I wish I had that type of allowance each week! Sometimes I can see why they call this the "Entitlement Generation".

Wow, did you watch some of the videos? If you click on the links in the article you can watch them!

That is just crazy! $120 for a 16 year old!! WOW! She did say she has to save up for things she finds, so at least she's learning that...!

That is insane!! I never got any money from my parents.
I started working part time when I was old enough.

The videos didn't work for me. So I was curious more about those allowances. Did they explain more? I'm wondering if that mom would like to adopt me?

The mom's video basically said they started out with $50 a week or so and she kept coming and asking for more money. So they sat down and made a budget of everything she spends money on and how much that will cost in a year. They broke it down to per week & got $120.

The daughter's video was basically her explaining what she spends the money on. She showed some fuzzy zebra print high top looking sneakers. ($100) She also had some gold necklaces that have big words in cursive (S.A.T. words she called them). One word (don't remember what it was) that she said meant "unnecessary"! She then said she had a couple of more in her room, but couldn't find them! WOW! Don't remember how much she said they were $40 or so a piece? Then she had some perfume - Coco Chanel ($120). WOW! She also said her school didn't have a cafeteria and so she has to buy her lunch every day. Plus she went to movies and used cabs. Oh, and her mom buys groceries for dinner, but no one really knows how to cook so she either eats pasta, grilled cheese or buys her own dinner.

WoW!

Wow! I could see a $120 a week allowance if she's having to buy her necessities, clothes and school lunch but that much just to buy her wants is way too much in my book. I'm glad her parents have the money to indulge her and her brother.
