We also live paycheck to paycheck before too for quiet sometimes. Dumb and stupid I know. But we made sure we put money into our retirement first. DH and I still learning a lot but after my father passed away I became even more aware of our stupidity. But hey what does that make me? a HUMAN BEING and I'm not ashame of it. We are learning from it though which is a good thing.

I am ashamed to say that we do not actively put money into retirement. However, I am a teacher and DH is a police officer and we have money that they automatically deduct anyway. But because we have CC debt, we do not contribute anything extra.

Yeah we participate....but there is no matching which is the biggest set back.

We put in 5% and then the government matches 5% so it is a pretty good amount. Yes, we are way over $100K, but we are older, too.

We put away between 15 and 25 percent a month. Not all of that is for retirement.

(We're military, too, and I do wish they had some sort of matching program.)

Same here.

But, I always still wonder if we'll have enough for a decent retirement.

I haven't started putting anything away for retirement. I am only 21, though. Middle of 2009 I will be eligible for my company's pension plan, if I put away 5% they contribute 5%, so when I'm eligible I will put that away.
