How much do you guys put towards your retirement (401K,CD,IRA etc..)per month? Anyone who has $100k and over in their retirement yet? We are getting there right now. Slowly but surely. I'm really glad that I found this website because its been an eye opener for us and we catch our mistakes on time (were still in the 20's) so time is still on our side putting money in retirement and savings.

I have a certain amount taken out of my pay every month for my 401K, and there is a partial match. DH puts the max into his IRA every year - I think that's around 4K a year. I usually put a lump sum into our investment account every year. Right now we have too much in savings/money market at the bank. My brother was helping me decide where to put it when the stock market started going nuts, so he's told me to just leave it in the money market for the time being. I'm not sure what the 401K is worth at the moment...just not recalling as it's gone so high/low over the last few years. I think that, with the IRA and investment fund would be at least 200K right now. Plus another 100K in the bank that I need to move. I've had the 401K for about 18 years now. We have no kids to funnel money into.

We put in 15% of gross but we make a lower income so we are no where near 100K and we cashed out to put a down payment our house so we started again in our early 30s. (We are allowed to this this tax and penalty free in Canada if it's a first home up to $20,000 each). "It's a long way to Tipperary".

DH puts 4% plus 4% matching and direct contribution of 2%. I put 8% with a direct contribution of 10%.

I'd say between the two of us we have a total of about $50,000 in retirement accounts. We are late 20s.

When I first read your post I got really REALLY sad for a moment b/c we are no where near $100K in retirement. Then I reminded myself that your dh is in the military and you are saving up for a home when he gets out. PHEW!!! As for retirement??I am not sure of actual figures...but when I look at the full picture we are doing ok.

We're older so we've been saving for a long time. Yes, we're over $100K and, trust me, that's not enough! We put a little over 10% away right now, plus the company match, plus other non-retirement investments.

You are so young and already have that much saved? Good Job! DH is military as well and I can't imagine having that much saved....there is barely anything left over at the end of the month. Of course he is enlisted and we live in Southern California where prices are insanely high so maybe that has something to do with it.

I am going to be nosey as well--- how did you are your Dh get to this point in your savings? Any advice?

Thanks-- Ann

I was prior military before and I saved majority of my money back then. I never enjoyed the money I worked so hard for until I got married. Its not quiet $100K but its slowly getting there maybe in 4 more years

As far as retirement savings goes, DH puts 6% with 6% match into a 401(k). We just cashed mine out to buy our home, so I don't have any. We don't have much as far as specific retirement savings goes.
