My Great grandmother gave me a gold bangle that her father gave to her when she was 11 (in 1911) and told me to wear it on special occasions and I do. Even if i didnt love it i would never sell it. I would give it to my child or grandchild.

I have a bunch of inherited jewelry. My mom had 2 wealthy aunts that never had children of their own and left everything to my mom. We each got a huge set of sterling silver from them as well, which I really use and enjoy. My mom totally took things apart, had them remade, mixed stones with other stones, etc. She even embedded 4 big diamonds into thin bangles and they are gorgeous! We have had lots of fun with all of the jewels. My grandmother died recently and we found ouselves looking at all her jewelry and remembering fun times and thinking of how much we all loved her and miss her. Every one of us has something that is special to us, so we are dividing it up. The leftovers will go to my mom and she will offer things to my nieces and my cousin's children.

I think it is fun to keep it in the family, but I also think it is perfectly fine to change it up to make it your own. And you have a daughter so you should definitely keep it. I played in my mom's jewelry box my whole life and loved it when she gave me things at certain times in my life. My 10th birthday, 16th, 18th, 21st. My wedding. My first child. Family jewelry is great. If it is real, keep it!
