When I knew I was getting laid off I called my local unemployment office and they were able to give me the exact amount of unemployment I would receive based on the information in their computer.

Good luck and I'm sorry about your job.

When I was laid off (10 years ago), unemployment wasn't based strickly on a percentage of income. There was a cap. So, in other words, you got a percentage of your income (a very LOW percentage) up to a certain amount then that's all you got. So let's say you're an executive who used to have a $200,000 a year salary. If you got laid off, the state wouldn't suddenly give you $100,000 a year! If I remember correctly I got something like $635 a month. It wasn't a lot.

Sign up with every temporary job agency you can find. You'll get working faster, get paid weekly, and have benefits available to you after three months.

they are giving us an option to transfer to customer service, which is opened until 9pm at night. they have shifts from the morning to night shifts.
problem is, the shifts choices are based on senority, which means i'm ..... last
there is 13 people being laid off, im # 12 on the senority list.
so, as you can imagine, im not going to get an early shift...
being a single parent, my family works, and they live 30 miles from me, there is no daycare open until late at night.
*what do I do with my son, if I get one of these shifts?
now i work 7:30-4:30...
even if i find some random lady that watches kids from her home, i would never leave my son with a stranger...in their house.
if there was a daycare center open that late, then great, but here, there isn't.
now, he is in an after school program that he has to be pickup by 5:30pm.
which is great now, but...not if i get one of those late shifts.
*anyways, sorry i keep going on and on, im just so stressed...about all these.
plus, even if i find a daycare, and i get a 12-9 shift,
going to sleep at 10pm is no life for a 7 yr old.

my boss now says she's sure i can qualify for unemployement, and when i looked at the website, it looks like I would have a valid reason, so that puts me more at ease.
thanks to all you ladies for your kind words!

Late shift means you will be open for interviewing for what you want.

I think each state is different. Here in Michigan the max you can get is $362.00 a week and you get a check every other week. Our unemployment checks for a month is $1448. That is almost half of a weeks pay when dh is working.
