I saw this in the WSJ the other day and thought it was interesting.

Thanks for that article. We try to always have food to get us through any emergency. It would make me feel better if more people did this.

Very interesting article! It's still hard to believe how fast the prices have risen on food and gas over the past few months! I have started trying to buy a couple of extra items when I do grocery shopping to start building up a few extra items to have on hand. Yesterday I bought an extra jar of spaghetti sauce, 2 boxes of pasta, and a bag of rice. I am going to keep doing this, in the past, I really didn't see a need to stockpile things, but I have since changed my mind.

This article is disturbing to say the least. While I'm not impressed with higher prices of food, I can swing them. Not to mention (if it ever warms up enough) I grow a garden that cut my grocery bill about in half last year. But a lot of people, a lot of families, cannot do this. It truely is frightening.

Thanks for the article, I think.

The main reason for rising prices, of course, is the surge in demand from China and India. Hundreds of millions of people are joining the middle class each year, and that means they want to eat more and better food.

A secondary reason has been the growing demand for ethanol as a fuel additive. That's soaking up some of the corn supply.
Is it just me or does it seem in someway we're taking a hit for companies wanting to save a buck? I mean, everyone outsources to India and China so they can produce cheaper products...now we're paying for it. People are starting to use corn for fuel (which if I'm not mistaken the govt subsidizes more) and now we have less grain and other crops. Seriously, who decided it was a good idea to use our food crops to gas our cars? ugh! The whole thing is just very frustrating.

Do you think this is a ploy to scare people? People should believe only half of what they read.

What would be the point of scaring people more??? Everyone can already see the way prices are jumping on everything.
