I say when it dies or when the repairs cost more than 1/2 the blue book value. New cars are so expensive, even new-used.

I've had a couple of older cars and I've found when they start approaching 100k miles, it's time to get rid of it. I held on to one car after 100k miles and it wound up needing a huge repair, over $2000. Not worth it. My last car was at 99k miles, with broken air conditioning and other problems and while I didn't want a car loan, it was worth it to get a new (used) car, with only 32k miles on it. I've been driving it going on a year (Hyndai Sonata) and haven't had 1 problem with it.
