I think it is also giving many a false since of we have money. I know that knowing we have "extra" money coming has made me feel that getting a few little things here and there are not going to hurt. The yay we recieved our check lets all go out to dinner idea which will happen to some. I think it will be a little like that holiday season a rush of shopping and buying and then everyone getting there bill come July and all buying stopping. I think it will also increase debt for many. They will have enough for a good DP on a really nice TV, or a Car, or new furniture and they will but the rest on credit

I think that this check is stealing money from future generations.

I think that they only way we will begin to "stimulate" our economy is to become an economy that makes and offers things that people want, instead of being an economy that relies on people buying things. We need to get away from just buying, we need to offer services and goods that appeal to us and other nations.

I am not in favor of this check.

I Dont' Have time to Search for a link right Now , But I Think that it has been Clarified that this is Not Free Money from the Government.

I Think We had a Discussion on Here about this too

I Also Heard months Back that their was a Difference in the amount We would Be Getting Back -
Originally it was

1200- Dh and I

and 300.00 Per Child

that Would Equal - 2100.00

Then I Had Read that Payments Would not Be Higher than - 1200 or Was it 1500? I forget but I am planning About 1200.00 ..

We received ours: 1200 for DH and I and 300 per child: $1800 total. I didn't hear about a limit. We got just what I heard we would from the very beginning.

We are spending part of ours (bought an upright freezer) and building our emergency fund and paying on debt with rest.

I don't think the money being sent out will help the economy much. Most people will need it to live off of.

Well what I can remember from economics - saving = investment = growth in the economy. Therefore it really confuses me why they are saying here - go spend some more.

As someone mentioned up thread, saving also enters the economy through capital loans, if it is saved in a regular bank and not under the bed. But that doesn't mean that saving and spending are equally effective in boosting the economy.

This administration wants consumer spending boosted over a short period of time that will quickly put sales and profits into American companies that hire American workers.

Savings generally is partly kept as reserves in the bank and mostly loaned to businesses and individuals. These investments have varying degrees of worthiness (That's probably the best word here.) Case in point is vast amount of loans made for mortgages where the homes have not kept their value. So that "growth" turned out to not really be there in a lasting sense.

Making credit worthy loans (NOT SBA or other government backed loans) does build businesses and promotes long term growth of the economy better than consumer spending.

It is not helping the economy, it is just putting our country further in debt.

Trust me, for every one of us that saves it, there will be 10 others that spend it in a heartbeat.

And there is no such thing as "free money" from the government. No matter what a crazy guy in a suit with dollar signs all over it says. Rule #1 in Econ 101: There is no such thing as a free lunch.

This isn't "free", this is basically an "advance" on next years tax return. Sadly, most people don't realize it, and are going to be surprised when doing their taxes next year. I'm not really in favor of this check, because it means I'm going to get less next year. Anyone seen the Simpsons episode where Lisa becomes President, and they need a quick way to make money so they do a "Refund Adjustment" and take moeny from the people? The people were so caught up in the word "Refund" they never realized they were actually worse off than before. This reminds me of that episode, to a lesser extent.
