I know stimulus checks suppose to help the bad economy right now by what spending the money? well some of us are not planning on doing that. We are planning on putting ours in the Emergency Fund, some of you guys are planning on paying off your debt. The government is giving us "free money" to help the economy but not all of us are spending it . Am I missing something here? There has to be a connection somewhere that maybe I'm not getting it of how this whole thing suppose to work. Can someone please explain it to me? I'm a little confuse

I had the same thought. I was also thinking, if we do spend it, then what? After that money is gone people are still not going to be able to afford food and gas. The amount they are giving us really is not a lot in today's economy.

it is not going to help it was the governments idea of a band aid and i think they decided a little to late they should have tried it late last year in order to try and stimulate people are struggling to much all the poles have indicated people are going to pay bills buy food and gas with their checks.. so an answer is its not going to stimulate the economy its to late at this point. so there really is no point to the checks for the reason they intended anyway but i'm not gonna complain its 2100 bucks less in bills food and gas i'm gonna have to pay.

I don't think that the checks will help the economy at all. But they definitley will help our family get caught up. So I have to thank the govt. this time.

I don't know how much it will help stimulate the economy. And I know a lot of people will pay off bills or put it in savings. But there are lots of people who will be spending it. I know plenty of people who have plans for spending it.

The total effect is very minor and has both positive and negative sides to it. If everyone took all of the money and spent it on totally American products that you wouldn't have bought otherwise, there would be a small boost to the economy. Start subtracting from there the money that isn't being used that way and the inflationary effect of creating money from NOTHING and it ends up with possibly negative results in the long run.

It does strengthen the impression that government is the answer to whatever is the problem, even though government is the cause of many of the problems.

I have heard from the beginning that this is not the way to go and totally agreed that it was a bad idea. With that said, it's not like I'm NOT going to spend the money. I think there will still be people who see this as "free money" and will use it to buy things they want.

even if you save it, it allows banks to lend the money and spur things on.

Most of ours will go towards debt and some will go towards buying things for our son (who will be born in July).
We are still not sure exactly how much we are getting though. We thought that we'd be getting $1,200.00 but my father in law said $900.00.
Either way it will help us oout even if it doesn't help boost the economy.

That said... I know my parents blow money like crazy and I'm sure that they will be spending all of theirs!
