Do you have identity theft insurance?

What are your thoughts on it? I only heard of it recently. We don't have it at this point.

Here is a link in case you don't know what I'm taking about. Zander Insurance – Dave Ramsey Identity Theft Program – ID Theft Protection

Nope...Dh and I aren't interested in it at this point. We are very careful with everything, monitoring our accounts, credit reports, shredding mail, don't give out SS #'s, important docs locked in a safe etc

We have Lifelock. We are very careful with our information as well. Check our credit reports, I shred everything (even things that probably don't need shredded), never give out info, ect. However, the companies that already have our information have not been so careful. First, the dimwit from the VA had his laptop stolen...then an old credit card sent us a note about losing data...then the Texas Higher Education Authority sent me a letter about losing my data. All within 2 months. We decided we needed protection. Frankly, I feel there should be a bill of some kind passed that would require companies to pay for identity theft protection if they lose your information...perhaps then they wouldn't be so flippant about it.

I realize it's not for everyone, though...I just like the peace of mind. Besides, it's such a bear to open an account there's absolutely no temptation for me to open an account just to "save %15 on my purchases".

I actually have it on my homeowner's policy. The insurance company we have just started an endorsement on or homeowner's policy that has more coverage than lifelock but is way cheaper. The city I live in is actually one of the top cities for identity theft and I have a soon to be x-SIL who has already stolden 2 peoples ID's that we know about. I would rather be safe than sorry.

Yes, we have it on a couple of different things, but that is just because it came with it (homeowners ins., checking, my DH's travel card.)

I had been debating getting this for a few years and finally got it just 2 months ago after going crazy not being able to locate my dd's ss card. I keep them altogether in a lock-box, but had to bring it with me to register her for Kindergarten. It was making me sick to my stomach thinking who could get ahold of it and the damage they could do to her. Also, I had been so careful with it, it was driving me crazy that I couldn't find it! Thankfully, I finally found it tucked into an envelope with her birth certificate.

As soon as I found it, I signed up for Zanders. I was trying to decide between Zanders and Life Lock, and went with Zanders because it's endorsed by Dave Ramsey, who I thoroughly respect and trust in these matters.

Unfortunately, no matter how careful we are, mistakes happen. A friend's husband had his ss# stolen and his identity stolen. When he tried to get a new ss#, he was told he couldn't have it done because doing that was for "emergencies only"! What could be more of an emergency than having your identity stolen?! Another friend had her purse stolen at work, right out of her desk. Our mortgage company gave us a year's free of Identity Protection after having lost some back-up tapes containing everyone's personal information!! There was a bank that was in trouble a couple years ago for throwing everyone's personal records (statements, cancelled checks, etc) in the dumpster right behind their building without shredding anything!!

For me, this insurance is now worth the price and headache if God forbid, anyone in my family had their identity stolen.
