I hope this isn't too personal.... I am just curious about how stable people feel their jobs are in this economy. For us personally, we don't feel that great about it. I have a teaching degree and am in constant inner conflict as to whether I should be working and providing for my family financially in a stable working environment. There is a lot of anxiety right now in our household over all the bad news in the economy. Just curious how others feel.

We are lucky in the fact that my dh's job is incredibly secure. He is loved by his company-he's the only one that can do what he does and he brings in multi-million dollar contracts to them so there is no way he'd get laid off. He also gets job offers all the time b/c it's hard to find someone with his level clearance that can do what he does, we are very happy with his company, but still it's nice to know if something happened he could easily get another job. We know that first hand-he does the job of 3 people right now b/c they can't find any other qualified applicants to help him and they have been looking for over a year. Not that I'm complaining b/c the overtime is nice

My dh's job is very secure in that he would never be fired, however in today's economy, we never know how long the business will stay open. We live in a small town and he works at a lumber yard. It's hard for a small lumber yard to compete with the likes of Menards and Home Depot. (Just as it is hard for the small grocery stores to compete with Walmart, which I am guilty of shopping at once in a while.) The bigger stores are only 30 minutes away. With the price of gas rising, I hope the local contractors will make the decision to buy in town.

Christmas Card Challenge! 68/72

Dh is a teacher at an independent school that is currently growing and adding more students. His job is very secure, the school caters to families that are not affected financially by a downturn in the economy.
We're feeling very lucky right now because with the current budget cuts in education happening here, we know quite a few public school teachers and employees that have been pink slipped and told that they will definitely not be renewed next year. And these are teachers with tenure, who have been in the district for 8+ years, scary stuff!

My DH is self-employed as a massage therapist. We believe his job is stable only so far as how hard he is willing to work to maintain his practice and client base. Our income fluctuates from month to month and we had to get our "water-legs" before we got used to this. The fluctuating income doesn't let us get complacent like a steady paycheck would, it always reminds us that our wonderful client base is the whole reason we have any kind of income. And really, in today's world, nobody is completely safe from lay-offs.

I think dh's job is about as secure as anyones. He has alot of senority at his company also. I work as a special ed para and I think it is pretty secure right now also, since there are more and more kids qualifying for special ed.

I'm not worried about dh's job. He's a nurse in the army and my only concern at the moment is if he'll deploy or not this year.

It's extremely stable he works for the 6th largest company (according to forbes lol)

I guess were lucky that his job is secure. Especially with the economy.

My husband's job is secure, as it is with the Military. My job is in healthcare and it is very secure as well.
