What a great idea!! I will have to do this with Brody

Haven't read through all the threads, but for the most part I agree that lots of things are just a waste of money for "convenience". As far as the "soup at hand" thing goes, though, certain things are convenient for people to keep at their desks at work. I have co workers who keep things like that in their desk so on those days when they get stuck working late or working through lunch when they thought they'd have a chance to go to the cafeteria & therefore didn't pack a lunch, then they have something they can eat that did not come out of the vending machine. "emergency food" for the office, so to speak.

How about the containers with raviolis and macaronis that you can microwave in the container? Both the can and the containers have a peel off top, yet you get twice as much in a can. Is it so hard to whip out a bowl or tupperware? Apparently, because they're popular.

--This is a perfect example of the kind of food people keep in their desks at work.

I agree the Diaper Genie was a waste.

I do buy the soup or pasta in one size servings. My husband has a microwave at work, and can keep these things in his desk when he can't get away. Better than chips from the vending machine!

I won't get the hot dogs, or the PBJs. I have gotten the individual peanut butter for Dds lunch and for travel. When we travel i will buy some convenience foods, especially if I haven't saved any food containers I can toss.

The pre sliced apples and carmel, well, I have gotten w/ a coupon, but DD said they taste funny, of course from being preserved. So no more of that.

Hmmm, what else?

Now I am a thrifty person and all, some would even call me cheap, but don't go attacking my Uncrsutables!! DH takes these with him for a snack at work and they are great on the go for a 2 yr old's lunch (on occasion, not everyday!) and I lived on these when I was Pregnant with both kids. You can buy them at Walmart for $4.96 for the 10 pack. That makes them cheaper than something out of a vending machine or running through the drive through! Yeah, it's lazy, but we all have a few extravagancies in life and these are one of ours!!

Also, the J&J washclothes are nice for travel.

Ok Ive got one. Those shower medications that supposed to help clear your sinuses and the vapor is supposed to help you. You put it on the bottom of your shower and it just rinses away as you shower.
Ive never tried it but I dont see how that can help, just taking a regular steamy shower helps with congestion, usually.

Why does anyone feel the need to justify their uses of things people are calling money-wasters? I doubt anyone's looking down their noses at anyone over it. Opinions were asked for, and they're being given. Not everyone will have the same money-wasters as someone else. And for some the convenience is worth the money, therefore it's not a waste. Don't take it personally.

Youre correct, I use lots of things for convenience, such as prepackaged jello, pudding (yes I could just make it in a bowl and put it into a glad bowl to pack in my sons lunches) but I dont. I also buy individually wrapped cookies, chips and crackers. But I do get them at Costco so theyre somewhat cheaper than a regular grocery store.

exactly! I buy individually bottled water, Tyson chicken tenderloins in a 2LB bag, canned sodas. But to me it wasn't a waste. I don't think anyone's rants about money-wasters was intended to be a put-down to people who use them.

Uh, maybe I missed something but I didn't see anyone arguing, just giving opinions.
I never used a diaper genie. I just tied it up in a grocery bag (or 2 if needed) and put it in the kitchen garbage.
Can you believe my kids school has the uncrustables for lunch sometimes! I hope they get a good deal on them, my kids hate the grilled cheese ones. And the other ones have too much filling in them.
