O.K. I've noticed everyone seems to be having questions about this and I do too. I wonder if I am going to even receive one. I did get the card in the mail saying anyone who filed a 2007 tax return could get one but does that mean you actually will?

The reason I wonder is because we received a fairly large amount for our refund check when we filed. I know that I will get a paper check if I do get one and I will have to wait until July 11th. I did get on the IRS website and did their calculater page where you put certain things on it from your tax papers. Anyways it said we should receive $1200 but my sis did the exact same thing and she only received around $600 last week. Her and her dh both work but they had to pay in around $600. She said they got back exactly what they paid in.

Her son works and has 2 kids. He makes pretty good so they had to pay in more. She said they got $1800 last week. I thought it was supposed to be $600 per person that was employed and $300 per child max. If that's it then they should of only received $1200 because his wife didn't work. I'm confused! I think the IRS website is confusing a lot of people. I guess I'll just count on nothing and then if I do get a lil something be happy.

those amounts are up to amount so its up to 600 for individuals and up to 1200 for married and if your children qualify you could get 300 per kid..

as for the one that got 1800 and you think should only get 1200 becuase the spouse does not work i don't work but we file married joint so i got my 600 so we got 1200 for married and another 900 for the 3 kids. it does not matter if a spouse works its based on your filing status like us we are married and have to file jointly.

your sisters will be different than yours becuase their income dedcutions and excemptions will not be the same as yours the amount has nothing to do with how you filed its what your 2007 tax return says.. like when i did the link wheres my check i put in we had 0 excemptions and it said there was no info so i got out my return and actually we had 5 exceptions on our return. even though dh makes decent money we have enough in deductions to bring down our taxable income so that we don't pay taxes thats why we got such a big return last year(we have since changed our withholdings).

so comparing yours with others is like comparing apples to oranges no two returns are the same thus the amount you get can be different. my sister thought she was getting 2400 but she only got 1800 becuase of what was on their return theirs was reduced. also if you owe any taxes they will take it and if you owe back child support they will take it.

all the info on the irs web is correct you may just need to re-read it again there is alot of info on there.

It does matter whether you actually paid any taxes for 2007. If you did pay taxes( I don't know how much though), then it doesn't matter if one spouse doesn't work.

For those that did not pay any (or very much) taxes, then reduced amounts are calculated.

O.K. that clears up some of my questions. I just thought that if one spouse didn't work even if they filed jointly then they would only get up to $600. I'm a stay at home mom and my dh works so that's what I figured for us. I am in no way mad or jealous because of what my nephew got back. I just didn't really understand it.

I know that comparing me and my sisters tax returns would be silly but we both got on the website and it said $1200. I guess I didn't read it right. I just figured since I put in the info that it asked such as salary etc. that it could tell me the exact amount that we would be getting. My sister had said that was the amount and she was really disappointed last week only to get $600. I on the otherhand was skeptical of that amount because I kept reading and it would say up to a certain amt.

My sis says I should at least get $600 since I have two sons that are under the age of 17. Is she right? Do they also factor how much my dh made and what was taken out etc. on that amt. too? Just wondering.

I don't think it matters how much you make unless you either make too little to pay taxes...or you make alot...like over six figures (something like that). We got $1500 direct deposited last week. We filed jointly and have 1 child. So it's exactly like they said it would be. Now it is possible that there were some mistakes made if you actually got the wrong amount. I would give them a call. I don't know if much would happen....after all..it is the government and...I don't know...they always seem slow and it's really hard to get a straight answer.

Reread the website. I don't think it's really that complicated. If you work enough to pay taxes, but don't make enough that you would consider yourself "wealthy" or "well-to-do" by any means....$600 each tax paying adult (meaning $1200 per married couple). Then $300 for each kid! That's about it!

Your cute little baby, unfortunately won't count in the stimulus package (I don't think), because he wasn't born last year! My daughter was born in Feb. of 2007 and she didn't count as a tax deduction because she wasn't born in 2006 and that's what we filed our taxes for. So I think they only count children in the stimulus package if they were claimed on your tax form for the taxes of 2007.

Did you and your husband file separately?! I mean if you work part-time and didn't make enough to pay taxes personally...yourself...maybe that's why you got $300. Since it goes by the last digits of your social...maybe a $600 check will still come for him. that's all I can think of!

yes kids have to be under the age of 17 my sister lost 300 because one of their kids turned 18 at the end of 2007. yes they do go on how much you make there is a cap i think its 150,000 then things get reduced as well up to a certain amt. the exact numbers are on the website.

she is right your baby would have had to be born in 2007. so that 300 for your child you won't get since it goes off of your 2007 return.

What I read said that as it is actually based on 2008 taxes that we won't know about until we file next year, they are sending amounts based on the 2007 return. If you have a baby this year, you will get the $300 as a credit (bigger refund) when you file next year.
