Occasionally I hear someone talk about how their parents have nothing but credit card debt, not even a house. Or if they do have a house, no money to pay the taxes, utilities and some extra for food.

Do you have to worry about your parents or in-laws financially?

My parents and my in laws have indexed pensions that will last until the last one of the couple dies so we don't have to worry. Although in both cases, they seem to be spending or giving every penny that comes in. I guess by that age, there isn't such a need to save anymore?!?!

No...not at all thankfully. Both my MIL and my own mother have no debt and live off the interest from all their investments.

My dad is deceased my mom is on her own. Right now, at 60, she is working 12 hour days working for the county jail. This year she contracted MRSA. A little less than a month ago they had her off because she got a cut from a contraband razor(she is a property clerk) and was laid up for a week because they were worried the infection might spread to her heart(she has had a minor heart attack). She can't really afford not to work.

My DH's parents are deceased so no we don't have to worry there and even when they where still alive, the were doing fine.
My parents I don't have to worry about either, they have no debt and have always been very, very frugal.

My in-laws are ok financially, MIL squeezes every penny until it turns into a dollar.

My parents have nothing but their social security, they get enough from social security to pay their utilities and vehicle insurance but their isn't much left over. They aren't in great health, they fall into the gap with their prescription drug plan in August/September. Its a roller coaster ride with them, I have a brother, step-brother and step-sister who all live within 20 mins of them but no one helps. I live 12 hrs away and I have to take care of everything from scheduling drs appts to making sure they have groceries, at least twice a month I mail them a flat rate box full of groceries, they will not accept money from me so I mail them groceries and in the winter I pay on their heating costs, they use a small locally owned pharmacy and I have the owner mail me the bills when they have to charge their meds.

My parents - I think they will be fine - considering they are in their forty's it is still a while to go, however my MIL is a constant worry and a weight around our neck.

DH's parents are both deceased. My father is deceased and my mom is in her mid-80s.

Yes, I do worry about my mom.

My Parents Are Completly Fine.

My Dhs Family .... Well His Grandfather is 77 and Still Works ... His Mom Is 52 and I think she will be working Forever too.

We aren't Worried about them .... Cause Well It Really Isen't Our problem ( Dh's Words)
Obviously We wouldn't let them Starve , But We Can't Do too Much , Considering , we Have 4 kids and a Retirement to Fund.
The Granddad And his Deceased Grandmom , Spent their Whole 401K in 5 Yrs.
They have nothing to Show For it...
Dhs Sis is the same Way!
Thank God Dh Had Has A Strong Work ethic.
