Let me tell you I’ve had a few REAL good ones!
Lets see, I learned the hard way that you have to make your car payment, if ya get my drift
I now how horrid credit. Its getting better month by month BUT it was a great lesson and I will never do that again.

How about you? What have you learned the hard way?

It is my husband's mistake --- a timeshare that we can't use and can't give away.

My worst thing was getting a credit card. Within 2 years, I racked up $10k. Daddy saved my heinie, and I finally paid him off. I haven't had a credit card since, and it's been about 6 or 7 years. I know I'm SUPER lucky that dad did that, and part of the agreement is I will never get another credit card. I've gone this long without one, and been through some hairy financial times, so I'm not concerned anymore about not having it.

Other people can use them appropriately, but I obviously can't!

Not having a job, no account in my name and no money of my own when I caught my ex cheating and I left.

I learned that you can only depend on yourself, and to always keep some "folded up money". Because you never know what can happen in the future.

Thankfully we have never made any huge mistakes but the worst one is buying a used car warranty. We went to buy a used car from a dealer, I went outside and when I came back in dh had purchased a $1800 used car warranty that we NEVER USED. oh well.

Getting a credit card pushed by the college book store. It was the 80's, every student had a cc, and it was stupid. I'm hoping to get it through my ds's head that a cc is NOT allowed when we send him off to college next year, although in reality there's no way I can stop him if a bank will extend him credit.

Buying a house before the old one had sold. That was one stressful (and expensive) summer.

This ties right in with this topic that was back a few pages:

Lets see..we paid off cc debt probably 2 years ago before we purchased our house (was able to pay off with the sell of the last house)

and here we are again in cc debt...though we have 3,000 left to pay off..I can assure you it will not happen again.
